Is Seattle as depressing as it looks here?

I'm not from the USA but the Seattle from The Killing looks so *beep* depressing! Well, is the city that gave us grunge after all. That wouldn't have happened in sunny California 

reply

Yes, dreary, rainy, damp - high suicide rates.

I made me wonder the same thing although I watched Grey's Anatomy a few years ago, rainy and gloomy all the same but the light-hearted soundtracks really helped.

I went to visit in July and I found it tp be a beautiful city with rich culture. Although I will say that the city does have a high population of homeless people, the city does seem to do a lot to help them.

The city has a lot of homeless but the city does seem to do a lot to help them? Some sorta oxymoron? If they do so much to help them then why are there still so many homeless?

reply

They have alot of shelters for the homeless. And there's a very popular open market strip in Seattle, many of the places at the end of the day donate their leftover food to the homeless.

TV Shows I've watched: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls072583934/. Any suggestions?

Seattle is amazing and our summers are absolutely stunning. Our winters are rainy though, doesn't get too cold and doesn't really snow, just rainy. This show has one thing wrong though, it rarely pours down like it does in the show. We have a wet air/misty kinda thing going on, pouring rain isn't common like it seems to be on the show. We actually get less annual rainfall than a lot of other cities in the United States. If you don't like
overcast though, Seattle isn't for you! We have lots of that!

Lol, living in the Philippines where we only have 2 seasons: Summer and rainy season, where were have 20+ typhoons a year makes Seattle look very normal to me. Like a combo is Seattle and Florida/California.

Show is filmed in Vancouver, so ....

reply

Really? I didn't know about that. From watching the series It did gave me the impression that Seattle seemed rather dark and a bit depressing place. But if it was filmed in Vancouver, then that changes things.

reply

TBH, Vancouver and Seattle get very similar weather...

I had a friend from Seattle in the military. He said they have such a high suicide rate, they take bets on how high people will bounce when they jump off the building.

reply

Yes it's Vancouver not Seattle. Practically any movie or TV show that claims to be Seattle is almost certain to be Vancouver. For starters, there's an immediate 25% savings in production costs re Cdn. $ & US $. Plus so many movies and TV shows are done in Van that film crews are very experienced and have all the equipment necessary. They just need a few Seattle skyline shots with Space Needle to convey the supposed locale. Soon as I see Gary Chalk in the cast I know straightaway it's done here. And it doesn't rain THAT much, half the time they use rain machines to fake it. No rain right now as I speak.....wait, oh drat, just a few drops maybe.

reply

Depends if you are living inside the rain shadow or not.
