Insulting portrayal of America

This movie was an 88 minute hyperbole, but a bad one. first of all just to get the nitpicky stuff out of the way, their american accents are pretty bad... also the setting is not even close to a typical american suburb and yeah that guy was watching rugby... yeah football is the sport of choice in america, so yeah that's the minor mostly insignificant stuff. More importantly and the reasons why i say this move was insulting was b/c of the following. The montage of violence after Alex got the tv in his room is would not be typical things you would find watching television. It might not seem like an important detail to some but it is when television seems to be the major culprit in the movie... American movies are pretty violent, our video games are also but television no not so much in fact american television is so white bread most movies shown on tv are edited beyond recognition.
Another thing that irritated me was the way that the children talked to the teachers... I could go on for a long time about how ridiculous this was and unacceptable and completely overstated their obstinate rude and inappropriate behavior was but I wont... I'll just say that their behavior would not fly anywhere in America but the director made it seem as if this kind of thing were the norm as the teachers didn't even seem bothered by the fact that they were being cussed out and threatened by 10yr olds...

this movie could have been so so much better... and I'm not saying that America has not become a culture obsessed with violence b/c I think we have but not in the way they portrayed it. Next time please consult someone who has grown up in America or better yet actual American children... I see so much potential in this story too bad
On a side note I think the kid did well playing a schizophrenic budding psychopath... even though they clearly do not understand either schizophrenia or psychopathology...

I also think they should have cast a more awkward looking kid... the kid who played alex did not pull of the skinhead or jarhead look... I was like awwww look at the cute wittle jarhead...

and another thing seriously he died from a single knife wound... yeah right... that blade was barely 3in and you need at least 3in of penetration for a stab wound to even be potentially fatal not to mention that based on the place he was holding there is no way that he would have died before anyone found him that was way too much of a stretch

then the cheating dad.. seriously

the one point that was accurate was the the little tid bit about americas military... its sad but true we spend a crap ton of money on defense or rather offense...

I just watched this movie. I liked it, but I agree with a few of your points.

I have to disagree about the knife wound, though. You couldn't really tell where he was holding himself. A three-inch blade can do a lot of damage to a 10 year old's body, esp. if it's in the area of the liver. He was alone after his killer left, and it didn't seem to be a time of day or a location for a lot of pedestrian traffic. He could easily have bled out especially if an artery was severed. I don't think that scene was much of a stretch.

One other thing, I certainly don't think a cheating parent is a stretch at all, ever, in any country.

I probably should have proof read that comment before I posted it, lots of grammar issues... The liver is a remarkably resilient organ it will take a lot more than a single stab wound to completely incapacitate even a 10yr old. Granted he certainly could have bled out... Also it wasn't necessarily the cheating parent it was the circumstances which led to him cheating, far to contrived even for a movie in my opinion.
