Based on a True Story??

This story reminds me so much of a story about one of my friends Dad, who, when he was 15, (ok a little older than in the film) hitch-hiked through France to watch Liverpool play FC Nantes, while the great Bill Shankly was in charge.

They seem to have changed a few of the details (the Hollywood effect!!) but if you read this article, I think you'll agree that there are quite a few similarities!! Even the bit meeting all the players and the manager!

I'm not complaining at all or having a rant that they've stolen the idea- I think it's a great story and am so pleased that my friends Dad (Tony Dunn)'s story is being immortalised in film.

Hope you can all see and just thought I'd share the great story on here!

Yeah it is mate. Did you read the article I had posted?

I couldn't find any other articles to support it, but there was talk of an old Shankly documentary which my friend's Dad had contributed too, as stated in the article- so if you end up finding that let me know.

And plus I remember hearing the story from him/my friend (but nice to know it wasn't just "my Dad's a secret agent" boast!)

But yeah it's a great story and since you're clearly a Red yourself, spread the word!

NO. it is not. Although there are many instances where this movie can show the heart of all liverpool supporters it is not based on any true story (other than the epic comeback victory)

there is an interview with the writer/director and she said she wrote the movie and picked the club later. after watching LFC v Man U back in the fall of 2008 she became a fan. She said the story of Istanbul fit with the mood/character of the movie. just watch the interview. should be enough proof.

I have read this story on a fan site somewhere and now that you bring it up, the movie does seem very similar, just adjusted for modern times for the modern viewer.

that was a great adventure your friend's dad had.

Sigh. I teed myself for the Liverpool-Man U game by watching this movie. Now I just want to kick Jonjo Shelvey's rear for getting sent off.,
