Where was the comedy?

Isn't this supposed to be a comedy? My friend and I (we're 21) watched this and were literally laughing because of how bad it is. There was not one single truly funny part, and it was just a giant party. Did they really only make this to show a party, because I thought it was supposed to be a comedy.

I agree it was a bit disappointing from a comedy side.

I think it was supposed to be the whole ridiculousness things that kept happening that would provide humor. It doesn't work so well though unless you forget the fact that this is a movie, and it's all fiction.

I thought the whole Dax video caming everyone funny to see their reactions; I distinctly remember him staring at two different black guys while they're eyeing him like *beep*

Yeah there weren't really any gags as such. I think we were supposed to laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation like when the flamethrower lunatic shows up and gets subsequently blown up. The fact it was shot/presented docu-style without the sacha baron cohen humour to drive it is a bit sad.

I was wondering about this as well. I came home the other day while my brother was watching and I caught the last 30 minutes or so. My conclusion was that they took the basic theme of Superbad and made a very depressing movie about everything that could go wrong for Thomas instead of putting the things that could go wrong into a humorous context.

I thought maybe all the build-up in the first hour was where the comedy was and I had just missed it, but from reading other threads on this board, it doesn't sound like I missed much.

I think part of the reason I enjoyed this movie more than most is because I wasn't expecting a comedy. I'm very good at zoning out when seeing commercials and movie trailers

With no expectations going into the movie, what I got was a somewhat unique coming of age story with some unexpected comedic moments. I like how the drama builds over the course of the film, as the party gets more and more out of hand, and I'm impressed that they were able to make a coming of age story that takes place almost entirely in 1 location on 1 day. I'd never seen anything quite like it.

I typically dont get Superbad Old School or Animal House predomknantly White fat guys acting weird movies. I tbought the music was on time and the subtle comedy from pop kid who wont move from locker, security taking good job seriously despite their young age in later asking for pay in then walking off with your head down window they didn't do a good job. I like that stuff

If you think this crap is on the same league as those other movies, you are sadly mistaken.

reply

Yeah I don't get it either... not funny and no redeemable qualities at all. Count this among the first movies ever where I root for the police.

This movie made me want to hate high school kids.

Just an awful film all-around.

'Comedy' is just a label slapped on to make it easier to market... and marketers will lie to you, in order to sell stuff.

Well, let me preface this with I didn't think it was all that funny in a comedic sense, however the little person being thrown in the oven was pretty funny.

This was very similar to "Can't Hardly Wait", with the exception that it was about 100 laughs shy of that movie.

I did like how they constantly pushed the party to a new level in this- but yeah, it fell short in the comedic sense quite often.

in the second half it develops a good southparkian comedy style, you missed it, or maybe it's not your cup of tea, a family guy guy!
