a huge let down for me....

I cant believe this film and its unbelievable all-over-the place plot...I am a fan of japanese film but this film is a huge let down. The story is naively written and the end is quite unconvincing. Give me the old black and white Zatoichi film with its well written plot, it beats this film on the spot. Such incredible waste of time and money to make this film. It is said that the film Da Vinci Code is based on this film but i think this is grossly overrated.

Yes, it is an unbelievable story, but I liked the film nevertheless as a interesting fantasy story with good characterisations.

There exist many unbelievable stories, even naive, which make good films nevertheless. Sure, this is no masterpiece of cinema. But I would never call it an "incredible waste of time". On contrary, I found it quite entertaining.

Yes, the finale is a bit weak and mundane but that lessens not the suspense and fascination I felt throughout most of the film. Compared to other Japanese films I've seen this even has a lot of humour. I felt somewhat reminded of "Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain" in this respect, but due to the rather dry humour in "Princess Toyotomi" the Japanese film worked better for me.
