When even the trailer fails to be funny…

Yet another example of the old "This Movie Is So Bad That We Can't Even Make the Trailer Look Good"-syndrome. Deserves a place in the Failing Trailer Hall of Fame. What other movie trailers would we find in there, people? Suggestions?

reply

actually i laughed my ass off, totally funny, can't wait for the movie.

reply

How could you have laughed your ass off? There were hardly any jokes in there...

Dinner mah boi.

reply

Because it's physical comedy. It wasn't very good though, I agree.

reply

"How could you have laughed your ass off?"

Well I'm sure he/she didn't mean literally. It means he/she laughed really hard. And it's pretty easy to laugh too. All you have to do is open your mouth and let out a "ha" sound.

"There were hardly any jokes there..."

See that's where you're wrong. Now I may have not seen the movie (Nor do I plan on watching it), but maybe YOU didn't see the jokes/funny moments, but he/she did. And that there is what makes having an opinion wonderful. You don't necessarily have to find the movie funny or like it. But other people can.

Well, that's it for this episode of "The Joker's Tips and Other Helpful Words". I hope you enjoyed it. Please join us for the next episode.

This comedy spy spoof series ranks below even Get Smart and Austin Powers, both abysmal in their own right. The main character Rowan Atkinson is highly unappealing , I have never liked any of his work , the Mr Bean antics totally unfunny. He it trying to be the British Jim Carrey doing sight gags and such but they aren't funny. He and Martin Short are 2 of the worst comedic actors out there yet they still find work. Unbelievable

"So, a thought crossed your mind? Must have been a long and lonely journey"

Plus Rowan has been doing his work over a decade before Jim Carrey even existed in hollywood as a star

The Good the Bad and the Ugly is the greatest movie ever made...

reply

Okay, since I started this thread, I try asking you again: what other movie trailers can you think of that simply can't hide the fact that the movie is bad? I would love to hear your suggestions!

reply

Well, mr. troll, if I were to base my movie choices on trailers alone, I probably would've skipped about 70% of them. Thankfully, however, trailers aren't a very good representation of most movies, and this particular movie, since it's a sequel, can appeal on the basis of the original alone. Furthermore, the trailer wasn't half as bad as you make it out to be and doesn't need your stamp of approval anyway. Now please do us all a favor and crawl back into your cozy troll cave.

-------
No, you're not wrong, you're just an a$$hole!

reply

The OP is not a troll. He makes a totally valid point. I mean, there are movies that are bad but have hilarious trailers because they put all the funniest jokes in the trailer. But then there are movies like this where the trailer is nothing but tired, derivative gags we've seen a thousand times before. It doesn't seem clever, or creative, or poignant like the first Johnny English was. It looks more comparable to trash like Scary Movie: there isn't a single genuine or un-spoof-like moment.

As true fans of Rowan Atkinson, you should have higher standards for his comedy, not just eat up every single thing he does just because of who he is.

reply

I think coming onto this forum and immidiately start a sneering topic that this movie is (going to be) terrible based on the trailer that OP disliked without giving a real clarification, classifies him as a troll, yes.
Trying to cover up this true intent (hating on the trailer and indirectly the upcoming movie) by feigning a discussion of bad trailers was a nice, yet unconvincing touch.

Also, I'm not some blind fanboy of Atkinson. I really disliked "Mr. Bean's Holiday" for example. I just like what I like (no matter the actor, popularity, or what any self-proclaimed Einstein thinks about it).

Rattaplan… Wow… I'm truly amazed by your conclusions. (Or *maybe* it's all just rallying…?)

This is no mystery, no big deal and (of course) no trolling. It's as simple as this: I think the Johnny English Reborn trailer fails in its purpose to make me want to go and see the movie. And for those of you who agree, I'm urging you to name other trailers that you think fit in under the decription "when even the trailer fails to be funny, how can the movie be funny."

It's a matter of opinion, if you're familiar with that term.

I'm a huge fan of Atkinson, ever since the days of Not the Nine O'Clock News, and was looking forward to this movie…until I saw the trailer, which, in my opinion, is dreary and lifeless. And I thought, "wow, a trailer with hardly any laughs…what does that say about the movie?"

If you think the trailer is hilarious, then fine. This means this thread is not for you. Simple as that.

reply

I just came back from a packed cinema. The only movie I've been to where the audience clapped at the end of the movie. It was funny in a clean gold old slapstick humour sort of way. Rowan Atkinson is an amazing comedien! Love him!

reply

funnlim, where do you live?

reply

i really had no intention of watching this because i've seen its trailer and i thought it's really lame. but there aren't much interesting movies as well so my bf and i thought to just give in to this. and im glad we did because i find this superbly funny! i love the chair scene, the "put your hands up in the air", LOL :)))

reply

Really? The cinema I saw it in there were no more than a few half hearted laughs here and there in the whole film. The only part that really got laughs was at the end of the credits and a lot of people had left by then. It just wasn't all that funny. Most of the jokes were extremely predictable. Really wasn't up to his usual standard at all.

reply

Go find a forum relating to a movie that fits your assertion then.

reply

I think I'll stick with this forum which is intended for people to express their opinions thanks. If you have a problem with people who disagree with your opinion then it's you who's in the wrong forum.

One of the truly worst wastes of time and space, including the trailer, had to be "Can't Stop The Music" featuring The Village People and Bruce Jenner (yes, *that* Bruce Jenner, one-time Olympic champion and Wheaties sports hero, now reduced to a sad footnote on an even sadder reality show).

reply

Lol no offense but Jim Carrey has nothing on Rowan Atkinson, a lot of today's comedian's (Jim Carrey) have just copied better and more experienced actor's over the years and I have to say you have no taste in anything, Austin Powers is great, as is Get Smart, and to be honest a British version of anything is far better than lets say and American version of something, Americans just fail at everything! and to be honest I would like to see you have a go at being a comedian I'm sure it's harder than anything you have ever done in your life.

reply

First Jim Carey movie I saw was Ace Ventura. Loved that movie but every movie I've seen him in ever since he's played exactly the same character. He's a one trick pony. He does it well but it's always the same. Rowan Atkinson on the other hand has had some very different characters. You compare Mr Bean with Edmund Blackadder with Johnny English. Very different characters with very different types of humour. Eg. Bean's mostly visual slapstick humour compared to Blackadder's quick wit where there's very little slapstick at all.

reply

You are talking loco! Jim Carrey has been incredibly versatile. Off the top of my head I can think of several movies aside from his comedic roles such as Number 23, The Truman Show, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Need I say more...

reply

Mr Been isn't funny? OMG, do us all a favor and literally, i mean LITERALLY, kill you.

reply

I think Mr Bean is funny. I think this trailer is not. In what way was that unclear to you?

reply

@BigWhiskers You should ask for a sense of humour for Christmas.

Atkinson is a comedic genius; check out some of his standup stuff.

reply

i agree.

reply

I totally agree with you, I saw this movie a few days ago (hardly), and I had moderate expectations about this one (I really enjoy the first movie) but what I found was a movie with a few lame jokes that I almost left the room.
I think that mr. atkinson though that he's funny and no maters what he does it'll make us laugh...sorry, sir, try again

reply

I found it quite funny, especially when he broke the chair and he slowly went down

"I told you it's not fat, it's power!"

reply

Worst comedy trailer ever. It's just Johnny English unintentionally hitting everying. Nothing else.

reply

Maybe OP just is doesn't get Atkinson.

I have to agree, him breaking the chair and going straight down is classic
Atkinson/Mr. Bean style hijinks.

No one does it better.

But seriously, if you want to know what Atkinson is about, check out
his "Welcome To Hell" sketch on Youtube.

Hilarious stuff.

reply

That part when he slowly falls down on the chair made me laugh hard as hell, he has great standup, and in shows like the black adder its not sight gags, its actual inteligent comedy. But he is awesome at both.

reply

I have NO idea what these douches r saying, the trailer (international one) was funny as hell ! laughed my ASS off, guess the British sense of humour doesnt apply to the Americans, yet we indians get it....

reply

The trailer was verry funny!

i saw it on 22trailers.com

reply

Just saw the trailer and it was very funny!

Especially the chair scene. Just look that straight face when he says "give me 24 hours". Made me laugh, even though it isn't actually fun by itself. RA makes it be

reply

Will go and watch this in theather, just for the plugg-in he did on Top Gear^^ The man is an absolute riot.

reply

I actually thought the trailer was quite funny (as much as a trailer can be), and I'm not really a Mr. Bean/Johnny English fan. Though I do enjoy Rowan's standup
