Suspiciously High Rating
An 8.7? Seriously? I mean I haven't seen it yet, but I feel like this is kind of suspicious. This just doesn't look like a movie that is supposedly better than Up or Wall-E.

share8,8 ;)
when something is good, then it is good.
You are talking about an Oscar winner here, you've got to understand this is top-tier quality.
and you haven't seen Metegol yet? but you still criticize it? well I can't change the prejudices good luck
8,8 is higher than Citizen Kane and Pan's Labyrinth. I'm sure it is good, I'm just wondering if it is THAT good.
shareKeep in mind that this movie was just premiered in Argentina, and for that country it has a very special feeling, meaning and it´s really the first time that you can see top quality animated character with that unique Argentinean personality on the screen. The result is, believe me, unique, and a real attempt to keep the acting of an animated character in a different way than the classic Hollywood animation school.
For sure that very special flavour will be perceived different in the rest of the world with the dub translations if it´s not carefully adapted to each country idiosyncrasy: that´s the real challenge for the adapters and the key of a good success worldwide.
Other than that, believe me that for a 20 million production cost, what you see on the screen is directly impossible to believe. Some of the big studios will need to revise theirs productions costs after watching this movie!
For sure the rating will decrease a little after the first days of impact, but I hope not so much because this movie deserves a good recognition for his own merits. It´s a classic already, at least for the southern Hemisphere.
It looks unique, however I'm not quite sure how it will hold world-wide. I like how artistic the lighting is in the movie, however the plot is pretty darn generic and has been used in TONS of movies.
I hope it is good, and if I see it I will definitely see it in its original translation.
On a side-note... you mean American animation school? I don't recall any animation schools located in Hollywood.
Yes for sure, I wasn´t talking about a physical animation school, haha; I mean the classic Disney/Pixar animation style that is the standard in all the 3D animated blockbuster movies coming out from Hollywood lately ;), that´s way I preferred to say 'Hollywood' more than 'American'(there are many other animation styles in America, but all the stuff coming from Hollywood seems to use the same one..).
The plot of the movie is not the most original ever made, for sure, but it has many atypical situations (I don´t want to spoil anything), it offers the chance to multiple lectures, and, since Campanella is a living book of cinematic history, it´s very entertaining from a movie lover point of view. there are TONS of homages to movie classics, from the more obvious ones that everybody will recognize, to the more subtle and hidden wich just very few will see. I was amazed to see more laughts on the older audience than the younger, and that, talking about a local animated movie with an argentinean audience, is close to a miracle!
You're completely right, and another thing, is it bad to have a simple plot in a film? No, it is not. Sometimes it isn't bad to have a simple plot in a film.
Finding Nemo, for example, you have a child (Nemo) that is lost, and his father (Marlin) that goes away to the wilderness, to find him. You could say it's a fairly simple plot. But Finding Nemo is one of the most grossing films ever, and is the 10th best animated film of all time by AFI (American Film Institute).
Sometimes it isn't bad to have a simple plot in a film.
Sometimes it is bad to have an over-pretentious, intelectually-wannabe, smart-ass, pessimistic and gloomy film.
Campanella is a director who is keen to simple, yet honest, relatable and close stories. In Luna de Avellaneda you have the story about a man who struggles to keep his childhood club from closing. In Vientos de Agua you have the story of two immigrant men (one the father, the other his son) in different history eras, moving to each other's country. In El Hijo de la Novia you have a son who tries to find a husband for his elder mother.
Simple. And touching.
There is nothing wrong with a simple plot. However, when a plot gets uncomfortably close to the plot of another movie it is a problem. Though, I don't think that is the case with this movie.
shareThen I'm glad everything is okay! =)
I like it when I see that a discussion carries on constructively, exchanging arguments in a good faith mindset
please watch the film as soon as it is premiered in the States, you'll be amazed about what just a sum of 20 millions of dollars can achieve! =)
Regards!
I'm going to guess that the movie will be dubbed into English which will dramatically change the quality of the movie. I think I will wait until I can watch it in its original language so that it maintains the same quality.
sharewise decition! Anyway, a little help in the movie theatres even if it`s dubbed will be very helpful for the argentinean animation industry :P :D Cheers!
shareAccording to very qualified people who've already seen previews with the UK-English traslation, the English version is 'even better than the original'. Hard to believe if you ask me, but if it´s that way, it´s a good thing indeed!! Let´s see if it´s true!!
shareThe rating is totally undeserved. It should be a 5, at most.
shareThat maybe if you were the King Of The World. But since the rating is made by the votes of everybody, and there are more than 500 votes now, it seems that your point of view doesn´t reflect the peoples choice. So, thanks God you´re not the King Of The World!! :P
shareDude, i just finished to read your film review and I feel so sick... why are you so injurious with this movie... maybe scared for see something really good made in another country? I just imagine you and see a very sad person... try to not fall from your own critics, you can broke your own neck... Regards :P !!
shareWhat else do you imagine about me? Tell me all about it. I have nothing better to do all day than to ponder what strangers on the internet think about me.
sharesince you're responding this kinds of messages, it seems that your words are sadly true!
shareIt's ok, you can keep attacking me personally.
I understand that you are out of words to praise this piece of garbage of a film, you already used up all your pre recorded speech and now you are just resorting to personal attacks.
It's fine, you can keep fighting the air... Cya pal.

shareWell, it's 6.8 now.
