Posting live deaths online?

I know the story was stupid. But my biggest complaint is that the rednecks actually thought they could profit off of posting live deaths online? I know those types of snuff videos lurk out there on the web, but did they honestly think that someone wouldn't report them, or that the police wouldn't learn that these three idiots were filming live shark attacks and then uploading them to the Internet?

Thats actually the premise of a diane lane movie.

I was thinking about this, too. Maybe they were hoping that their local law enforcement representative could tip them off to any pending investigations. Maybe he would help stymy them if the time came.

I'm interested in the surviving member of the conspiracy, the one who lets the great white shark out of the cage. Is he the only one left, or is he part of a larger team? Does the whole town intend to profit off this scheme? Is there a community hoping to turn itself into a bastion of snuff film-production murder-tourism? Would the presence of dozens of other members of such a conspiracy make it easier to safely profit from this ridiculous plan of theirs?

There are many countries in the world where they wouldn't care and won't cooperate with foreign investigations. Simply host the video there.

Second, with the level special effects are currently at, it'd be really hard to tell if a snuff film really contains footage of an actual death. Even if you can tell it's a real death, it'd be hard to prove it's the result of a murder.
It's not like porn where you're legally required to have documentation of the ages and identity of the actors you use.

Movies/TV/video are about image and not reality. For example, Ron Popeil's hair in a spray can. He's sold millions of cans, but only one per person. Why? Because the product is a repackaged product used by the entertainment industry used to cover up bald spots on actors. It looks great on camera. In real life it just looks like you have crap on your head.

Third, there's not a lot of evidence left even if there were to be an investigation after you've feed it to the sharks. They tend to digest everything.

My best guess is you could probably get away with it. Especially if you filmed it in such as way that your victims were not easily identified. No face or tattoo shots.
