Beautifully and movingly rendered work

I'm surprised at the lack of discussion here, but I'll be the first. This is powerful, top-quality work covering a little-known and painful, difficult subject. I'm really amazed at the ability of Sisters of War to deal with the complexity of the people, all of them trying to survive and retain their moral compass amidst incomprehensibly brutal circumstances. Although it's wrenching to watch, the acting, particularly that of Susie Porter and Claire van der Broom, was superb. As the years recede from this terrible, terrible war, it becomes increasingly important to try to honor the memory of the countless people whose lives were torn apart, and to tell their fascinating stories. The writer, John Misto, has also done an exceptional job creating a coherent, accessible, moving story spanning many years and many conflicted lives.

I really liked the film as well. It makes me want to know more about the real story behind the film.

One of the best TV movies I've seen. Acting and story were first rate.

I agree and I know how you feel. Sister Twohill is my Great Aunt ( Aunty Dympna to our family ) and although I knew from childhood that she had suffered when captured by the Japanese, I never found out any details and couldn't bring myself to ask her about them directly. To me it would've felt too intrusive and disrespectful.

I can say that she was surprised that someone wanted to make a film about it, especially considering her championing the cause of the Australian soldiers left behind in Rabaul whos story was swept under the rug by Australian historians, and whos sacrifice she wanted known by the general public. Typical of her to deflect attention to others. Sister Twohill is a truly great woman, compassionate and kind with an intellect I am jealous of, even at her present advanced age ( turning 100 in 2016 )she is still as sharp mentally as I have ever known her to be. And of course she holds no thoughts of hatred towards the Japanese who imprisoned these brave men and women.

Bravo to those who made this story so that others may share in these amazing personalities thrown together in the madness of war.
