Friendship After Break-Up? (Slightly OT)

What is everyone, watched the movie or not's, opinion on "Staying friends with your ex after a break-up"? Why do some people, including in this movie, think staying friends after a break up is impossible, and act like you don't want to talk to them at all, just because you aren't romantically linked anymore. Sure, it could be awkward and it of course depends on the kind of break up you had, but I for one don't think it's impossible. I'm friends with one of my ex's, and even though it's not quite the same and yes there will be rocky points, I'm very thankful for that.

Thoughts?

I'd say that one of the major points would be whether or not you end up in another relationship that is satisfying to you. If you're having a good time in life, it probably won't bother you if you see your ex with another guy/girl. If you're still crying into your pillow because you're all alone every night, I don't see a friendship with your ex in your immediate future.

It depends on the reason for the breakup as well as your relationship with them before officially dating.
