starcraft: Totally agree with you. I posted an entire rant on this movie too. I love Asian cinema and this, unfortunately, was just terrible. None of the actions made any sense throughout the entire movie. And his transition to "evil" isn't even gradual, he just suddenly acts like a lunatic at the very end. Totally unrealistic and ridiculous. If the movie was about the psychology of evil, then we would've seen him SLOWLY transition from a friggin weasel to a psycho by the end. Instead, he's just a weasel right up until the end. All this movie was was a bunch of ridiculous and over-the-top gore, combined with some occasional T and A to keep the viewer watching (since the poor excuse for a plot wasn't keeping anyone watching), and then an attempt at the VERY end to look profound (like Old Boy, etc.) by suddenly making the protagonist a crazy wild man. But in the end, it just didn't fit with his character at all, and no one just transforms like that. Even far worse movies like Hannibal Rising have shown a better transition from "normal" to "psycho" in a better way. This movie was a poor attempt to look like art, but PALES in comparison to most other Asian cinema. I have already ranted about this in a few other ways, but if you're interested in that feel free to check out my post. People trying to see more into this movie are kidding themselves. There's no art, story, or character development in this movie at all. And people trying to say that somehow the characters in this movie are done well also fails horribly, because every single character is a caricature of the most EXTREME example. The teenage daughter is an extreme example of the "you can't tell me what to do!" teenager, the mother is an extreme example of the repressed housewife, the father is an extreme example of a spineless nerd, the psychos are extreme examples of nut jobs, etc. Terrible movie. I give it 5 only because it's got some attractive women and a few funny scenes (which I'm not even sure were intended to be funny). But the absolutely sickening gore was not even close to justifiable in most scenes, it was purely for shock value, and the story is plodding and ridiculous. There is a lot of Asian cinema that can be classified as pure art, but certainly not this one.
