This Movie was Extremely Sad, Glad it is fiction.

I watched this movie a few days ago and I am still thinking about it. I wish I hadn't watched it past the point where he jumped out of the plane.

It would have been so much more interesting a story if Freya hadn't been killed and after going to Switzerland experience more ridiculous adventures. Think boyd ran out of creative steam at that point.

One thing is it has given me more compassion for people getting on in their years. While shopping last week this older gent caught my eye and he was just staring at me transfixed, kind of shocked. I looked at him back and he kept on staring and didn't look away as most people would when you catch them. I now realize I might have reminded him of a friend he had when he was younger and should have asked him how he was. He probably had some stories to tell me. He was old enough to have been through WWII. Being in the Jewish part of town maybe he was a survivor. We must be missing all kinds of opportunities, so much knowledge by going through our routines and not stopping to say hello to so many people.

Killing Freya and Stella was the right decision from a narrative standpoint. Logan would've returned to another baby and settled down and lived a happy, but in eventful life.

He would've never travelled to New York, met Gail, reconciled with with his son, met his son's kooky gf, and had a fling with Gloria. Also, it would've compromised all the reflection he did at the end of the story about his good luck and his bad luck.

Thanks for your post. Now I know that I'm not watching this. I'm a new Matthew Macfadyen fan, and was considering purchasing this series, while watching pretty fanmade videos about Matthew's character and Freya. But I hate sad endings, and if she's killed in the end, I'm not interested, lol.

Thanks to the OP for the spoilers.

Not to add my own spoiler, but I would say to Maria that this is not ultimately sad. It is very enjoyable.

I am a huge fan of McFadyen, so it was tough seeing him suffer, but he seems to "bounce" back (eventually) from tragedy And his reactions are not that different from those of the average person (drinking too much, some depression, pills, recreational sex).

SPOILER BELOW?

I just watched the episode in which he meets Wallis again at the party and accuses her of a murder cover-up.

I think that this insult and injustice will take him longer to get over than anything else. He treats people fairly and expects others to do the same. When they don't, it makes him furious.

I'm glad I found this series; it's historical, but personal, and seems so much more real than a show like Downton Abbey (though I enjoy that as well, for different reasons).

She deserves her revenge, and we deserve to die.

I was more than happy to spoil it. As you can see it helped one person. This movie could lead some people to suicide. There is something wicked about it. I'm guessing you're a little man who thinks he has a long way to go, but you really don't.
