One of the top 3 best (sci-fi) action flicks from the 2010s

Maybe the best of them all - I love this movie and it's just ridiculously re-watchable and entertaining, with a perfect cast and great humor!

Another entry for the top 3 list would be Mad Max Fury Road for me.

Can't decide on the 3rd one from the decade - Dredd, Avengers IW, X-Men DoFP and a few others come to mind.

Totally agree. I watch this every couple years and it's always entertaining.

You, Sir, are a man of good taste! I've watched this movie about 20 times now, watch it roughly twice a year and it's always a great 2 hours of solid entertainment.

What entries would you suggest for the top 3 or 5 best action (sci-fi or otherwise) from the 2010s?

reply

lol, a woman of good taste ;)

My husband likes to watch Apocalypto every year, it's one of his favorites. It's very violent (Mel Gibson) but there's something very gripping about it. I watch it with him every so often but definitely not once a year. Maybe every five years. About ten minutes of the violence and I have to take breaks.

I also really like Apollo 13 and Contact, but I'm a sci-fi geek so that plays into it. I like the sensory experience. Like, Inception or Interstellar. Things that have something visually cool in them.

Totally agree about Mad Max.

Lady of good taste then haha

All those listed movies are good, but I was asking for entries from the 2010s. Interstellar and Contact are both awesome indeed, although I'm not a big fan of Apocalypto - thought it was good, but not something I'm keen on re-watching.

I would've mentioned Cloud Atlas, but it's more drama than action IMO. Same with Interstellar if we're talking movies from 2010-2020.

I can't keep my movie dates straight! 2010s is the last ten years, right? I'll have to think about that some more. I understand about Apocalypto.

We (including your husband) are very much on the same wavelength, I LOVE contact and interstellar in particular. I wonder what other movies are on your short or even long list of most rewatchable?

reply

Right now we are about to start rewatching Lord of the Rings. Once I start, I feel like I have to get all the way through, just to keep the awesome middle-earth mood.

I also have to confess I watch the BBC Pride and Prejudice miniseries from start to finish every few years. All 6 hours of it! My husband only watched it once though, that was enough for him.

Over the summer I want to watch Battlestar Galactica with my teenagers. The 2000s series.

I guess none of those are movies.

Over Thanksgiving we watched Planes Trains and Automobiles. That movie is really old but we were all laughing till we cried, even the kids (and you know this generation, GenZ, their sense of humor is totally different than those of us older than 30). It's still really funny and relatable.

Let's see, I also watch Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory periodically (the original, not the Johnny Depp version) and, ooh, Terminator. And The Matrix (but only the first one). The Fifth Element. The Princess Bride. Mad Max. Alien vs Predator (my husband makes me watch this about once a year and each time he starts by saying, "Hey have you ever seen Alien vs Predator?" We've been together about 25 years, so, yeah, I've seen it at least five times. Finally my oldest is old enough to watch it with him, so I might be able to get out of having to watch it at least for a few years until all the kids get old enough to move out). Treasure of the Sierra Madre (another of my husband's favorites). Oh yes, and, uh Dirty Dancing (sheepish grin).

Apocalypto is a classic, I watch that yearly as well! And yes I'm a girl too!

Yeah, this was a fun movie, and I'm not even much of a Cruise fan.

reply

Underrated for sure.

reply

This is definitely the best. I only watched Avengers and Dredd once, and that Xmen 2x. This I've seen 5x.

EDGE OF TOMORROW,DREDD, AND MAD MAX FURY ROAD...WHAT A TRIPLE FEATURE!

reply

I'd love to see a sequel for Dredd, with Karl Urban and the same style of action / cinematography as the first.

YES!
