Cage being blacklisted

I don't quite understand how Cage ended up with the other soldiers in the situation he did. They were in France, and Major Cage was from the United States military. How did General Brigham manage to send Cage to the military base without any trouble from the United States military? For that matter, how did nobody know who Major Cage was? They didn't even recognize his face, and yet he was the one that was all over the media and apparently inspired millions of those guys to join (maybe not them, but at least in the States).

Wouldn't the United States military be wondering what's going on with one of their higher ranked officers? I understand the base was apparently in lockdown, but even during one of his repeats where he managed to escape, he never made an attempt to contact the United States. Did I miss something there? Was the U.S. in on it too?

He was put under the command of general Brigham by his superiors to film the invasion in France because the military believed they were going to win. When cage refused general Brigham had him arrested and demoted and sent him in as a grunt. Remember, this was an alien force invading the whole of planet earth. So the world's military know that there's no choice but to cooperate with each other. There can be no "you do your thing and we'll do ours" Any country fighting on it's own would soon be defeated. The top military men of most nations would know this. You're right about them not knowing who he is though. I suppose they could claim that the soldiers are battle hardened and don't watch a lot of telly.

It still seems confusing that one minute he's a high ranked officer with lots of clout, and the next he's back in boot camp as if he never served a day in his life. They could've at least explained that his original U.S. superiors were in agreement with General Brigham's decision, instead of just leaving it hanging.

He was a high ranking officer. But Brigham was a general. A much higher rank and with way more clout. Remember, cage disobeyed a direct order. Then tried to blackmail the general and to top it all off, he ran away (desertion). Being stripped of rank and sent to the front line as a coward seems pretty normal to me

Are you going to archive this or just let it die. :(

Yeah this whole situation sucks. Most of my posts are pre-written in a Word document anyway, so I have this. What I don't know is if there's going to be a place to have discussions like that as centralized as IMDB message forums were. There some options, but none are nearly as good so far. But I do have this post archived, even if it'll disappear from the internet (along with many posts I'm sure more important than mine out there on these message boards). So in a way it'll still die but exist as a ghost on my computer :{

I have a 12-part post on the movie Triangle that I've actually met people around world over. I'm not sure there's going to be a place for something like that again, but time will tell. I've heard this upcoming one (with a registration to the link below) might be a contender, but until they launch it that can't really be assessed:

Quite a few are spreading this one around, but I don't like the format (I really want one with a pre-existing per-movie board): http://imdb2.freeforums.net/.

Ok:

Firstly, a Major isn't THAT high ranking an officer. Yeah, it's moderately high, but nothing special really.

Secondly, he said himself very shortly before this movie started he lost his advertising firm and was ROTC (sorry if I got that wrong, but something similar). In other words, he was a reservist, so (given his position) he probably HADN'T served a real day in his life. He was a uniform doing a job, and that job was 'selling the war'.

Thirdly, he probably wasn't 'the face' of the war as much as the director of the recruitment drive. It would be like us recognizing Steven Spielberg. Sure, if I had Tom Cruise suddenly shoved in front of me I would probably recognize him as 'Tom Cruise' but if I had Steven Spielberg shoved in front of me, I probably wouldn't know him from Adam.
