A bit irresponsible...

"South Africa also has the highest reported incidence of rape in the world":

http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1008.html

"More than 25% of South African men questioned in a survey admitted to raping someone; of those, nearly half said they had raped more than one person, according to a new study conducted by the Medical Research Council (MRC).":

So, it's a little bit irresponsible showing two young women, dressed very sexy, going around unescorted in all kinds of places at night. Don't get me wrong, rape is NOT justified by the way a woman dresses, but in a place like that it pays to be cautious.

Sad. Pretty pathetic stats, for SA. Still, they have to fill those seats somehow, so they make the gals dress up. And young women have been putting themselves at risk for millenia.
And old joke - On vacation, on an evening out, the man suggests a walk on the beach. The woman says 'are you kidding? What if we get mugged? I'm wearing jewelry. I have my purse. For christ's sake - I have my vagina!'
Women generally have a lot more to lose than a man.

South Africa is beautiful for many more reasons than it's beaches. I have no problem with the movie being filmed there. Please see my original post. My contention was with the girls running around at night, scantily clothed, acting as if they are perfectly safe doing this. The fact that South Africa has beautiful beaches doesn't change the fact that it is the rape capital of the world. Old, ugly, women-hating ideas die hard, but they need to be addressed. The stats may be flawed, but they would be flawed equally anywhere. Is rape any less a reportable crime in South Africa than it would be in any country? Perhaps it might be in places where rape victims are treated like dirt, like places where Islamic extremism is in power, and places like South Africa where women who are raped are treated like perpetrators. If anything the stats in South Africa are *low*, so the situation is much worse than is reported.

The issue is the general attitude of a large segment of the male population in South Africa. As I wrote in the first post, a great many men there consider rape something that is "okay". Women need to take precautions. Officials in South Africa know this. In fact, one woman there has created a "rape condom" that a woman inserts in her vagina that has barbs in it that attaches itself (violently) to the man's penis if he tries to rape her. The device can only be removed by a doctor, which of course then informs the authorities that a rape has occurred. This device was created in response the high incidences of rape in South Africa. So, people there are well-aware of the problem and (as I wrote) it's a bit irresponsible for the filmmakers to show young, attractive, scantily-clad young women gallivanting around in South Africa at night like it's Disneyworld. It is not safe for young women (or any women) to be doing this and depicting that is a bit irresponsible. That was the gist of my post.
