she will ruin it

So glad Breaking In is back, but I cannot stand Megan Mullally! Already 10 minutes in and I want to shoot her.

reply

Same here...I've never heard of her (don't blame me) before FOX started promoting her for this season of Breaking In, hopefully someone will start a petition to tell FOX to have her character removed from the show.

This is the networks' attempt to make the show more appealing to a bigger audience .... bring in the girl from Will and Grace .... She has absolutely no chemistry with the cast, and sticks out like a sore thumb. Crap!

I hate it when some network genius tries to fix a show that didn't need fixing. Human Target was watered and dumbed down in it's second season, and now Breaking In looks like it will be a shell of what it once was.

Sucks.

reply

Totally agree. It's Human Target all over again, they've taken a show with a good cast, chemistry and dynamic and ruined it by making unnecessary changes. Let's face it, it's going to fail, I wish it had remained cancelled. Typical Fox though isn't it.

Are you her mom or something?

Maybe Fox wants Breaking In to be canceled, so they got Megan to be in it as a show killer.

reply

I never watched Will & Grace. Just can't stand her on principle.

What really baffles me is they thought it was a good move getting rid of Michael Rosenbaum in favor of her??? He was the reason I watched the first season, the guy had me in stitches.

Ah well, this was so obviously a mercy renewal, it's gonna get canned for sure, only a matter of time now.

reply

I loved Michael Rosenbaum....he was great on this show, and loved him as Lex on Smallville.

I watched the first episode of season 2 and she just ruined it. They took a show that was funny, more of a subtle funny, and went for the lowest form of humor - a loud and awkward character. She doesn't fit, her character doesn't fit. And what the hell happened to Trevor Moore's character Josh? That was actually a good character.
What's even better is that when I watched the first episode I watched it on OnDemand and FOX likes to put in little interview clips and stuff with their OnDemand selections. They interviewed the cast and asked them all about megan mullaly's addition and all of them set off BS alarms when trying to really pretend to get across they liked her addition.

I really liked this show, but it seems that they want to take vengence on fans for not letting them cancel the show after the initial run. Megan Mullaly needs to go.

Yep. In Season One, this show attracted and appealed to a certain audience, which sadly isn't enough to give it high ratings. FOX immediately (ie: didn't give it a chance) recognized that and cancelled. So to bring it back they needed to dumb it down and make it more sit-com formulatic and added Megan Mullaly. I like her on Parks & Rec (in a small recurring role), and I can see her appeal - but not on this style of show! But the show's downfall isn't just because of her.
Breaking In WAS a quirky, unique show, with sharp, dry and sometimes weird and geeky humor. That was personified by the character JOSH before they cut him. Even though he was barely in certain episodes, sometimes just lurking in the background, that came through and it was funny. And you never knew his full story, where he was coming from or what his intentions or motivations were. THAT is what this show was about.
And Rosenbaum's character is obviously missed. Someone already mentioned that because FOX cancelled this show, MR had to go get other gigs and therefore was unavailable when they finally decided to bring it back. FOX su*ks.
And lastly, I personally loved that catchy hip-hoppy groove of a theme song with its shout-out, sing-songy rap. Well FOX decided that that was too "alternative" or not mass-appealing enough or whatever, and that had to go too. Ridiculous.
Did I already mention that FOX su*ks?

I dont even know why Fox tries shows like this. They never give them more than a few episodes to shine. This show should have been on a network that likes this kind of "not normal" show. USA Network comes to mind. Probably would have had 4 seasons on there

It was, yes. But it never stood a chance on Fox. These shows can only survive on smaller networks

Unfortunately, her character just isn't working on this show. If anybody is to blame, it's the writers.
I agree. I dont blame MM. She can be very funny. Just not here. The character is too parallel to reality: Someone forced in that is not welcome. How are we supposed to like that.

Again, the show didn't need a new cast, it needed a different network. A quirky show like this was never going to get 8 million viewers

reply

I am hugely disappointed. I'm guessing some actors find other gigs due to the fact that it was cancelled (like how Scrubs wasn't same after one network cancelled it). The brilliant whit is gone, Megan doesn't fit into the show's flow. And I miss Josh aka Trever. With Dutch, well I couldn't expect him in every show -like Josh, but not at all?

Now I wish that Fox just let it die instead of ruining it, causing a slow painful death.

Dang, I didn't know Megan was so hated.

I loved her on Will and Grace, and on the various things she's done since (Parks and Rec, anyone?). She is the reason I got into Happy Endings (a fantastic comedy that I just ignored until I saw she was guest starring in it) and now, she is the reason I found THIS show, which I never knew existed until I saw a preview for it after New Girl, two weeks ago. I enjoyed that first episode with her being "Ronnie Brasco". Now I am watching this show for her and the rest of the kooky cast. So plenty of kudos to Megan, in my opinion!

Not a fan of hers.

I liked the original season. Nice chemistry between the cast members.

This season they had to jack that up in order to bring in M. Not to mention, it really screws with the history they set up for Oz's character in season 1. Basically, that character would never have gotten into the bind that allowed for M to come in for Season 2.

Agree btw with comments about Human Target. I loved season 1, but season 2 wasn't the same with the unnecessary cast additions.

reply

LOL, the people who were turned on to this show because of her are the exact demographic they're now going for. Mission accomplished; they've turned this into a Megan Mullally type show.

And for those who liked the original show, before it was bastardized by network geniuses for ratings, this show now sucks.

reply

THANK YOU!

And I don't think FOX ever even gave it a chance to reach more people who would have enjoyed it for the fun show it was in season 1. I feel it was never promoted correctly and then it was dismissed so quickly without letting a true fanbase grow for what it was.

If a show is not an instant success it is considered a failure no matter what potential it has to be great. Which is a shame because this show was so funny and HAD the potential to be great.

reply

I hate to say it but I loved the first season of this show and everyone on this post is right FOX has killed it yet again. Hey FOX I got your next cancellation...Your network I mean really American Idol over great shows like Human Target and Breaking In pre dumb Megan whatever her name is. You lose people because of the dumb way you run things! This show was soooooo! good, I mean Michael Rosenbaum quit Smallville for your show and you ruined it by canceling the show. Seriously FOX we know you want money but get the picture here we want great shows and you keep destroying them Firefly, Human Target and now Breaking In. I don't even know if I'm going to watch Breaking In anymore now that this woman is on it...

I agree that none of the Season 2 episodes have been nearly as good as the first season, but I don't think it's necessarily Mullally's fault. She is a good comedic actress with a lot of versatility. I enjoyed her on Will & Grace, and I actually thought she was pretty good on Party Down and the handful of times she was on Parks and Rec. Unfortunately, her character just isn't working on this show. If anybody is to blame, it's the writers.

As for the people who are complaining that Fox shouldn't have messed with the show, I agree with you in principle , but it's not like the show was getting stellar ratings before. I really enjoyed it, but you can't blame the suits for wanting to mix things up.

reply

I don't mind them working to fix issues, but does your default solution always need to be adding more unnecessary characters? Better plots or writing is one thing; just adding more people to the mix that serve no real purpose to advance the story is annoying.

(I miss season 1 Human Target)

reply

I didn't totally hate Mullaly in Will and Grace, but I HATE HER IN THIS SHOW!!!! I only got onboard recently, but based on reading all the stuff here, I went back & checked out S1. The difference between S1 and S2 is night and day. I don't really care if Dutch is here or not, but I despise Megan Mullaly on this show. She's just not good. It kills the whole flow of the show.

The reason the show wasn't getting rating is because of one thing AMERICAN IDOL. I mean think about this just for a second, you watch American Idol right...Okay so you're watching and Bam out of nowhere they kick off your favorite singer. Now are you going to wait around for the next show IE Breaking In to come on or are you going to get mad, shut your T.V. off and pout in your bed? The problem was they aired it after the ELIMINATION round of American Idol so people got pissed and didn't give a new show a chance.
