Courageous vs. Fireproof

Of the two, I think Courageous is the better of the films, the producers seemed to learn from their mistakes on fireproof.

1. Courageous has a more consistent pace to it, fireproof was stop and go.
2. The characters were more realistic and relatable IMO in courageous, with much better chemistry.
3. Courageous did not have Kirk Camerons melodramatic acting.
4. The Christianity in Courageous was far more realistic, always there, always a part of it, but not long drawn out "hit you over the head" conversations every five minutes.

I agree. Fireproof could have been so much better, but the wife in particular brought that movie down a bit.

Courageous did better without Cameron in there, not that I have anything against him. Much more subtle job of evangelism.

reply

I think Fireproof is better because it only has a few main characters and it spent enough time on all of them to develop them and their plots properly.

Courageous, on the other hand, has too many main characters & too many plots, which makes the story & characters less cohesive and less developed than in Fireproof.

Plus, even though Kendrick is a pretty good actor, in Fireproof Cameron gave a powerhouse acting performance that is beyond compare. Of course, that is to be expected since Cameron is a professional with decades of experience.

reply

You are entitled to your opinion, but you say "powerhouse acting performance" I think De Niro, I think Streep, I think Brando, Pacino, etc..

Not Kirk Cameron, I thought he was way over the top in this movie. He was doing a movie with a bunch of amateurs, and it showed.

reply

I agree. The reason why Kirk's performance in Firehouse seemed so good is the other actors in it sucked. If you can make Cameron look like De Niro, that doesn't say too much for the acting talents of the rest of the cast.

reply

De Niro has been giving consistently terrible acting performances since at least "Analyze This" from 1999. In contrast, Kirk Cameron has never given any bad acting performance, much less even one that is even a fraction as bad as any of De Niro's post-1998 acting performances.

Ergo, since De Niro lost all of his ability to act shortly before the new millennium started, Kirk Cameron is a much better actor than De Niro.

Cameron better than DiNro? Thanks, I needed a good laugh HHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHHAHAAHAHAHHHHAHA. Cameron is nothing more than a terrible sitcom actor. Hell, that'd even make Kirk Cameron laugh is ass off.

reply

You can laugh yet you cannot rebuke the substance of my previous post in this thread, dgresham. Because it's all true.

For example, compare Cameron's performance in "Fireproof" to De Niro's performance in "Analyze This" or "Analyze That." Cameron's performance obliterates De Niro's. De Niro is not believable in those performances whatsoever. He comes across like a really bad actor, which in those films, is exactly what he is. De Niro was once a good actor, but stopped being so at approximately 1999. Cameron has always been a good actor and never stopped being so. Those are the facts.

Whoa! I think the drugs just kicked in

reply

You should get off the drugs then, they are bad for you son.

Unless they are prescription drugs. If prescription drugs are what is messing up your mind, then you can stay on them and I will forgive you for being how you are. 

But did anybody notice that when Adam Mitchell was watching TV with Emily on his lap, there was a news report of a fire. That's the same fire that was in Fireproof that Kirk Cameron had to drag the little girl through the crawlspace through the floor. The reporter talked about it was unknown their daughter Lacy was in the house and on Fireproof, that was the name that the little girl had used when she came running over to let them know that Lacy had gone home and was in the house.

reply

I'm sorry, but all the actors were terrible in Fireproof, including Kirk Cameron.
