Which came first?

A display of things like Ground Spike and Tentacle Blast in the comics? Or [Prototype]?

During the fight with Carnage, I just couldn't get Prototype off my mind.

So yeah, which came first? I know the Ultimate comics came before Prototype (and the Venom symbiote appearing even before Ultimate), but what was the first to display powers of that sort?
