I wonder why Lucas Grabeel didn't return as Ryan Evans?

I was just wondering if Lucas Grabeel was offered a chance to return as Ryan Evans in a cameo appearance since I think it would have made more sense for him to return rather than Gabrielle because of being Sharpay's brother. I was wondering if his character's absence is mentioned or does he make a surprise appearance in the film?

In the movie it's as if Ryan does not exist. Lucas however is starring in a new TV series 'Switched At Birth' so he may have been too busy doing that to do the movie.

The guy who plays Ashley's friend and eventual love interest also stars in Switched At Birth as Lucas's friend. :D

He was in a cameo at the very end. He knocks on Sharpay's apartment door and starts singing "What I've Been Looking For." His appearance led into the credits.

Kinda messed up they want anyone to buy the DVD when the exclusive part is only on Disney channel.

I saw him come in and my dvr cut off. Did he explain his disappearance? Isn't he supposed to be at Juilliard, which is in NYC?
