Sharpay Evans is good...But not Broadway good.

Don't get me wrong, Ashley Tisdale is a good, appealing actress who can sing. But I consider her voice to be just average. It's really not that remarkable or unique let alone 0ff-the-chart great to carry a Broadway musical these days. That's why I couldn't buy a minute of this trite Disney rehash of 42nd Street.

You could be right but without an understudy for the lead, a few days/hours till opening night, and many jobs on the line, who else were they going to find who knew the lines, was able to inteact with the dogs and fit the costumes in that shor amount of time? As Mrs. Darbus would say "That's Show business"

And, after all, who really expects reality and logistics in a Disney movie?
My ten year-old loved it and that's all that mattered. :}

Yeah, the character seems like she would fit more as a recording artist. A pop princess, like Britney Spears. Of course the whole Broadway storyline is more fun to explore and more visually exciting than a recording studio so that's probably most of the reason they had her go to Broadway instead.

One word: understudy. Especially with Broadway productions.

Yeah, where were the understudies?!

Was thinking the same thing!!

Funny!

Ashley Tisdale is good enough to carry a cable spin-off movie, as both an actress and singer.

I certainly wouldn't say that "Sharpay" couldn't make it on Broadway because she's not good enough.
