Terrible movie. Spoilers.

80 minutes of my life wasted while watching this movie.
It started pretty well, but then it goes downhill and the ending: awful.

I hated that the whole family died. Really bad film.
It's similiar to Mother's Day remake, which is much better than this one.

Just my opinion.

I totally agree!!

And the funny thing is...this is the plot outline at IMDB:

"Three hooded Eastern-European criminals burst into a home in a Madrid gated community, holding the family hostage in its own home, and forcing the father to empty his credit cards. But the family fights back - brutally. "

"But the family fights back - brutally."

Which part that they fights back...brutally? Lol...they all dead...

reply

lol, that's true! I just noticed that.

reply

another part of false advertising - just like the cover, which has not much to do with anything in the movie, or the english title. nobody's frickin' kidnapped in this film...

reply

Well, the daughter did fight back pretty brutally. I thought bashing someone's head in like that was quite brutal.

reply

Awww too bad I loved it! I think it was very original. The way it was executed and directed was just amazing! It felt real!I thought it was an excellent horror film! Althoughh i really like Mothers Day, i think this was a superior film.

reply

I was enjoying it, but when the whole family started to die, I was like> what?? =\

reply

Yeah dude! It was very sad it left saying "awww whyy??" but it felt realand gave me chills in every scene! And at the end of the day, this could happen in real life, just the way it happened here! Thats why i thought it was great, the director gave us a "in your face" kinda movie. The movie left me thinking after it was over, thats a good thing, when movies does that to me. Anyways, i totally respect your opinion

reply

Yeah, and I must agree that the death scenes gave me chills too. lol

reply

How was this original? Last house on the left started this *beep* The only difference is the credit cards. There was a "nice guy" in that film too that didn't want to hurt anyone either! And the daughter was raped too! The only difference is there's no necklace and the parents don't go AWOL on their asses!

reply

Exactly! You said it!! Its execution is very different. Even you posted some points that are different and we dont see in every "kidnapped" film. Thats what makes the film different, its execution, direction.

reply

You thought it was "very original"? Was this the first film you've ever seen?

reply

Do you know the meaning of execution and direction? The story might be generic, but its execution and development was different from other "cat and mouse" thrillers.

reply

IMDB Finally edit the plot summary...
removing the "But the family fights back - brutally." line lol

reply

Did anybody else cheer for the girl while smashing the idiot´s face with that statue or something like that? I did. :D

What I dont like in such movies is the fact that the victims often act like dumbasses. Like anyone said here before, why didnt the father shot the Kidnapper he was driving around with???? omg....this is stupid!

reply

I'd have to disagree wholeheartedly... this film was brilliant in several aspects: a very sound script, excellent (and difficult) direction, nifty editing, amazing camerawork and outstanding acting.

Sorry, but I have trouble with criticism of a film's overall quality based on how the story differed from expectations (in this case, the ending).

Well, send me a postcard from Paradise.

I've lived through someone breaking in and trying to kill us. Got him instead. I loved every minute of this movie until the very end. It wasn't because of my past, it was because it felt unrealistic at that point. The deaths seemed thrown in there for shock value alone. I'm not sure how either one of the guys in the car crash could have easily walked away without wearing a seatbelt...because it's a Volvo?

The film was absolutely great in every other aspect. Although...how many horror films these days like to show off an object that will obviously be utilized in a death scene? The ugly statue was predictably used to kill the psycho perv. For something that felt real, that threw me out as I realized that not even the most realistic of horror movies can escape stupid cliches.

I was very impressed by the split screen during the climax.

reply

I was very impressed by the split screen during the climax.

So was I! When the father and daughter finally got back together, I was tearing up, knowing it's not over but feeling their relief.

We've met before, haven't we?

reply

Finally a reasonable opinion!

I think it's a terrific movie. Gripping from beginning to end. You obviously were offended by the way it all ended up, which is why I suggest you no longer waste the minutes of your life watching movies with this kind of extreme action in it. Maybe you should check out the trailer first, you know, and then you'll have a better sense of how to use your time.

reply

Yeah, you're right.
There's another movie very similar to this one, called Tresspass. It's new, with Nicole Kidman and Nicolas Cage.

Check it out. I thought it was better than this one lol. The violence is weak, but it's a good movie.

reply

I was disappointed also. The ending was a real downer. I'm not one for predictable endings and storylines but after sitting through something like this you really want the family to triumph. They all fought back the best they could and in the end, they all bought it. Yeah, that's really the kind of movie that leaves people with a feel good vibe on the way home from the theater, isn't it?? Bad enough I hate home invasion/hostage movies anyway because they all feel the same and this movie drags everything out till you're looking at your watch wondering "how much longer?" This one totally botches the ending for me in an attempt at being clever and left-field.

reply

Here's the thing that bothered me the most about the daughter. 1) Three...COUNT...that is THREE people who broke into your house. 2) There are TWO people who are left terrorizing your mother. 3) While daughter's behind was being terrorized by one criminal outside of the bathroom door, another criminal still dragged her back inside of the house when she tried to escape. Therefore, I was disappointed that she did not shoot the criminal in the kitchen.

Here's the thing that bothered me the most about the father. He did good by crashing the car, but at least, he should have SHOT the criminal in the head with his own gun before leaving the car all together. Have we not learned this already from horror movies? In one of the SCREAM movies, isn't there a character who asks someone, "Is he/she dead?" Then, after shooting the person in the head, the character goes on to say, "He/She is now."

reply

Completely agree; looked promising at first, but it collapsed into obvious cliché "artsy", unoriginal and meaningless copy of Funny Movies, which was an experiment on the viewer, but this movie, using those elements to just shock...so cheap.
