Compared to Funny Games...
How good is this film?
shareThis movie is like the Spanish version of Funny Games or The Strangers.
shareYeah, I kind of figured...which is good because I did enjoy both Funny Games and The Strangers. Now, would you say is it better or perhaps as good? I saw the trailer, and I'm still not sure how there is only 12 shots...unless of course trailer showed-cased fragments of shots in the film.
shareThis movie is better than both. It is SO intense and good. There's a new movie coming out called Trespass which is exactly like this movie, but it's English. I advise you to watch this movie, but it's not for weak stomachs. It's brutal.
shareNo, it's not as good. The Strangers wasn't original but it had effective scares. And Funny Games is far more original. Kidnapped was predictable.
shareThis movie is NOT like Mothers Day! Where the hell are people getting that? Mothers day was a HORRIBLE TROMA film. And this movie doesn't hold a candle to Funny Games, the original OR remake!
shareThey're talking about Mother's Day (2010_ starring Rebecca Demornay. The films are very similar, but Mother's Day is far more disturbing with a much better cast.
shareFunny Games is crap. This film is really shocking and brutal. Funny Games is just dumb. Shocking? ppfftt what a joke.
shareDepends on which version of "Funny Games" we are talking about. The original is clever though too clever for its own good. Never saw the remake with Naomi Watts.

Films are not reality. Reality is not film. Film is only an approximation of reality.
*English is not my primary langage.
I think Funny games was better, but this spanish movie is quite good actually.
Funny Games is better hands down, but this was not bad.
What people fail to realize a lot of the time is that Funny Games was an experiment on the viewer. It wasn't meant to be a "horror" or another type genre film. But kidnapped certainly is. Basically, you can't really compare them past the vehicle of a home invasion.
That's right. Funny Games was meant to be an experiment. The director wanted the viewers to realize how hypocrites we were about someone's death.
Secuestrados is just a circus.
"Hamburgers, the cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast."
this film is not particularly good but one can say that it is sort of combo of funny games+(bit of)irreversible+your common home invasion cliches

This movie wanted very badly to meld the brutal and unpredictable situation of a movie like Funny Games and the tight dramatic suspense of a movie like Taken.
It doesn't come close to either one. But the long takes do tend to draw you in to what's happening to the characters, and is probably the real saving grace for this film.
Kidnapped is worth watching, but it's nowhere near Funny Games.

Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.
The original (German/Austrian) Funny Games was excellent (I gave it an 8/10) but the US remake (also directed by Michael Haneke) was crap (2/10). I saw the similarities between Kidnapped and Funny Games immediately. In the end the two diverged sufficiently enough on plot for me to feel that Kidnapped wasn't a ripoff of Funny Games.
I actually rate Kidnapped up there with the original Funny Games, so a 8/10. Had the same uncompromising grit, and no Hollywood happy ending.
