I'd put S&S Tour in my list of top Five Madonna tours, but not #1.
I've seen Who's That Girl Tour, Drowned World Tour, Reinvention Tour, Confessions Tour & Sticky & Sweet Tour, all live (Reinvention twice). Virgin Tour, Blond Ambition Tour & Girlie Show, I didn't see live but saw recorded shows (both authorized & fan shot).
So for me, here is my list of Best Madonna Tours:
1-Blond Ambition Tour (this tour was the It-Shay when it rolled out nearly 20 years ago. Shows constantly made the news & entertainment shows for the duration of the tour, Rome Controversy, Toronto Controversy, Like A Virgin performance Controversy.......plus she was still pretty young, raw & in-your-face. The costumes & sets, the set list, Express Yourself opener, Like A Prayer's first performance, Vogue.............she was at the height of her career during this span & Truth or Dare/In Bed With Madonna only further cemented this tour in pop culture lore.)
2-Reinvention Tour (for me, mainly because it was hits & I got to finally see her do Vogue & Like A Prayer live).
3-Confessions Tour (Just a dynamic show. Really saw the wide spectrum of fans that go to Madonna shows---young, old & in between, men, women, gays & straights, etc.)
4-Who's That Girl Tour (I know a lot of people aren't fond of WTGT, but it was a huge tour and she sang live throughout the entire show & it was really the first time she started using screen images to illustrate the songs and Open Your Heart & Into The Groove were show stoppers in my opinion)
5-Sticky & Sweet Tour (Had a good time, enjoyed most of the set list.....could have done w/out some of the interludes between songs though).
6-Girlie Show (Like most of the show, especially The Beast Within number w/just the dancers, the re-working of Vogue & Express Yourself & Holiday. For me, any tour that followed Blond Ambition would be a slight letdown.)
7-Drowned World Tour (Really liked seeing this since at the time it was the first time I'd seen Madonna in 14 years and the show I saw in Philadelphia was her first US show so it got a lot of press coverage over here, but looking back on it, it was too dark & brooding. That said, I loved Impressive Instant, Beautiful Stranger, Candy Perfume Girl, Holiday & Music and the first concert performances of Frozen & Ray of Light)
8-Virgin Tour (Love this tour, truly I do. Great reminder of the 'original' Madonna who shot to stardom in 1984/1985. All live singing again. Set list of great early hits, Dress You Up & Holiday to me were the best numbers, Into The Groove the worst. But it's not a world tour (though it was lavishly covered in the major US markets on network, local & entertainment news shows & in print media as well--and it's not up to the standards of the tours that followed, and the most major strike, the commercial release cut three numbers out)
