Im honestly confused why this movie was so hated.

shareI loved it. Sure it was cheesy, it borrowed from Star Wars, it borrowed from Alien, just like the first one did. And also, just like the first one, it made me feel like a kid again because it had that great old Saturday morning matinee action-adventure feel like the movies I went to see as a kid. I didn't miss Will Smith's character one bit. I did wonder where Connie went, but I'm glad all my other favorite characters were in it. Julius, David, President Whitmore, Jasmine (too bad she got killed off), Dr. Okin and even a brief appearance of Robert Loggia. Will add this to my DVD collection for sure.

shareIf you seriously think this is a well made movie you should be forced to forfeit your right to ever talk about movies again. The digital effects department were the only ones who earned their paychecks on this one. That being said, it is still not enough to earn this movie anything beyond a 5/10.
shareThere are different types of well made movies. A movie can be crap, in an artistic sense, and yet be well made. What you really want to know, with a movie like this, is if it is enjoyable or not. This movie, like the first, was enjoyable. Not great, maybe not even good. That's not the point. A dumb action summer movie can also be a total chore to watch. I would not describe IDR as such.
shareI agree. I saw it last night and enjoyed it -- lots of action, cool aliens, cool weapons, cool space craft, pretty good fx and not too long. People have this false memory that the first one was a great movie. It isn't but was over the top with the evil aliens and mass destruction, plus the cg effects were very good for the time.
I rented it from Redbox and it's worth the 2 bucks. Also it's a movie you can show to your kids and they'll love it.
It succeeds as a fun summer blockbuster and never take itself too seriously like a bloated Christopher Nolan movie.

Oh yeah, I hate when a film is "too long" I have the attention span of an ape so anything that's too
long makes me noggin ache.

shareWith the first one I wanted to see jets fight alien ships. Instead we got indestructible shields so there was no real fighting.
With the first one I wanted to see the aliens walking around fighting human soldiers. Instead we get quick glimpses of the creature.
ID4-2 Has the dogfights and aliens I wanted. And the giant queen running around the desert fighting the gets at the end alone was better than the whole of the first film.
