Movie's explanation about where State Championship is being held

The coach (Kurt Russel )explains to the team, that they are playing The State Championship on their home turf because something about the grass on the field where State Championships are normally held is different or is being renovated....This explanation was unnecessary...just let it go...although the other team would have been up in arms that they didn't have home field advantage. (Maybe the movie's budget didn't allow for rent of a big stadium).
