After the kick return Murphy is desperately calling a timeout but in most football rules the clock stops after a kick off return anyway and would not resume until the snap, why did he want to burn the teams last timeout so bad?

I thought that was weak as well.
There's no way of telling unless we know what the Ohio high school football rules were in 1991. Many aspects of rules, including when the clock is automatically stopped, have changed over the years.

it was a bad call to show that but I am going to bet that that part was meant to be a different scene and when they put it in there they left the T.O call for some crazy reason
shareI agree. I've seen several movies or shows that do stupid things like that (calling a Time-out when the clock would stop). I've even seen it after a score. Something small like that can take away some of the credibility.
Sometimes I wonder why people that make sports movies don't know obvious things or someone doesn't tell them goofs like this.
