Shoulder Numerals On Varsity Jackets
I know a lot of things have changed in the last fifty years, but I did notice the Coldwater varsity football jackets were very much like the varsity jackets we wore a long time ago. Almost, but not exactly.
Our colors were blue and gold (blue jacket with gold piping around the collar, wrist, and waist), the backs carried our town name as well as the sport, "Football." Our fronts sported a championship patch (with the year) over the left breast while our first names were shown in script over the right breast.
Like the Coldwater team, we also had cream color leather sleeves with a letter for our position on one side and our personal jersey number on the other sleeve. Where I got lost with the Coldwater jackets was the numbers they sported on their shoulders. It seemed at least two of the players had "92" for their numerals. I know the quarterback's jersey number was "14," so that did not make sense. My only guess was that "92" was their year of graduation, and while that seems odd to me, I guess that is not too much of a change over the course of 50 years.
Best wishes,
