They have to pick it up a notch now that The Grand Tour is out

Don't you think so? I do think a big re-think with the format is needed for this to compete with it.

The BBC should do the decent thing now - Put Top Gear to rest and cancel all plans for any new filming. Then in a few months time purchase episodes of the Grand Tour from Amazon Prime and let the terrestrial viewers watch them albeit a few months after they were originally aired.
I wouldn't mind the wait.

But the strange thing in The Grand Tour is not that great, the three amigos need the TG segments nearly as much as TG needs them as hosts. I prefer The Grand Tour to the new Top Gear but both are pale imitations of the real thing.

Str74 is right, The Grand Tour isn't that great. It's incredibly well shot and they have all the exotic locations and cars. But it's not as funny as Top Gear used to be. And the current Top Gear isn't as funny as the old Top Gear as well... To be fair, we've just seen the first seasons of both new series, so hopefully we'll see two great shows in time.

this for me was the peak of the series.

10 years later its still BRILLIANT and they havent done anything that outshines it still.

The Grand Tour outside of a couple of amazing review segments and a Average special is nothing to write home about but niether was the past 2-3 years of TGUK2002 if i am honest.

A notch?

Other than Sabine, the entire new show is a rolling dumpster fire.

Chris Evans varied career has been reduced to that "shouty prick that ruined Top Gear"
