I tried the link but there was an error. I will say I am not so sure about them doing this. I really think this version is extraordinary and if the US market gets a hold of it, it is possible they will ''water it down." I am willing to see it though, it would have to be on like HBO, Starz, or Showtime though, no way would network TV would do it. Casting would be key just like in the original.

Maybe the links don't work because I'm using a mobile to post them?

Google Love/Hate Charlie Hunman - apparently he's in the running to play Nidge!

OK, I got it. I am not really happy with their casting ''bets''. I think outside of John Boy, they need to go with unknowns similar to how Love/Hate did it. I never watched Sons of Anarchy so I have no idea about Charlie H. as an actor. The only thing I know about him is he pulled out of Shades of Grey because they did not want to pay him or something like that. Anyway, I will say Giovanni Ribisi may be a good choice for Nidge but, is he in the right age range to play this role. Darren has been my favorite character and I feel if you don't get the casting right for Darren, Nidge, and John Boy this becomes a complete no go. I think I need to really think about what "under the radar'' actors could do this show justice. I have to say many of the choice according to the article are people from shows, I have never watched. Basically, I don't have premium channels and most of the suggested actors are in shows on those channels. I will say if they can't commit to staying 'true' to the original concept then the US market should not even touch it. I would hate to see the US market mess it up. I am still open to it though. It would be cool to see Aiden G. reprise his role but, most actors want to grow and move on from a part they are identified with. I think the easiest roll to cast would be Tommy though.

Charlie Hunnam is a too much of a pretty boy to be a convincing MC president and I just can't see him as Nigel. Don't like the sound of this at all.

They should definitely go with unknowns!!! But I very much doubt they will,....I mean look at shameless USA,...they cast William H Macey to play Frank for Christ sake lol,...Frank in the original series looked like a proper down and out alcoholic....very believable and one if the reasons his character come to life was because most people did not know who the actor was, and it's the same reason the love hate characters ar so believable, because most of them were Unknown,,.....Hollywood has no such priorities to do that. They would rather cast somebody who is known,...love hate will probably have a bunch of handsome Hollywood faces, none of which will have an authentic feel to them, or ever be able to top the proformances of the original actors, and as long as they get the ratings, nobody will care. This is why I hate American remakes. They only care about the bottom line, money and ratings. They have enough tv shows over there, I don't understand their need to mess with successful foreign shows and try to emutate them. Are American viewers really that dumb that they need an American remake in order to be able to enjoy or connect with a tv show? I very much doubt it. Yet Hollywood seems to have that opinion of them. . " yes it's a great show, but never mind that,...let's buy the rights and make our own half assed version, and if we're very lucky, people might like it."

william macy is brilliant as frank though
shameless shows that remakes can be good if handeled correctly

reply

the american shameless isnt really shameless, its a better drama but it isnt SHAMELESS

reply

Terrible idea. The show is good enough as is, just show it in the US. It's not like it's in a different language or anything.

reply

They may find the excuse there was a 'different' accent.

reply

Lol, yeah that's true, but that's part of the appeal. It's an Irish show, i'd hope there'd be an accent. Any English speaker that pays attention can understand it well enough to follow along with the show. Seems like a total waste to remake the entire show just to give it an American accent. The fact that it's set in and seems like authentic Ireland is one of the major appeals to me of this show.

reply

Was just going to say similar. The US tv market is full of gangland stuff, part of what makes Love/Hate different is that it's not set in the US, if they transport it's stories to an American City it will just blend in with the rest of the market, they can't exactly introduce the IRA angle from series 3 if it's set in the US. Seems they'd be as well saving some money and just buying the rights to show it in the states.

What channel it's on makes a huge difference. According to US law only television channels that you have to subscribe to can legally show profanity, nudity, etc, whereas the public free to air channels that anyone with an antenna can watch have to follow a whole bunch of censorship rules. So if it airs on one of the uncensored channels like HBO (or Netflix) it could turn out well, but if it airs one one of the free to air channels it'll end up being dumbed down.

I'm definitely NOT looking forward to the American remake. They will just at they do with every single tv show remake they have done,...a network buys it up, hires a bunch of random writers to write it, and the result will be another watered down remake that is void of everything that made the original a classic. You can tell by watching the original that it was the creators baby, and they poured their heart and soul into it,...when the Americans get a hold of it, they will attach writers go have no personal attachment, merely doing their job for a days wage, and it will just turn out to be a middle if the road crime series, like a million other American tv shows of the genre,...it will be missing the long build ups of tension,....that feeling where the viewer is uncomfortable watching cause they know something is about to pop off...it will be missing that raw violence, in favor for the American tv violence which is never believable ore half as dramatic.....

They should just leave it as it is, and release it in the states,...this idea where they have to remake tv shows for the American audience is *beep* It has never been done successfully....the office remake...CRAP,...the in betweeners remake...CRAP...almost human,...shameless,....all terrible, and all void of the everything that made the originals good!

Hollywood....stop remaking tv shows and ruining them.

reply

Not a RANDOM writer. Dennis Lehane, a very well-respected writer.

reply

I hope it's as good as the original.

They'll never be able to come close to the original. Not to say an American audience won't like an American version, but the original is pretty farking amazing.

Looks like it's fell through (thank God) look at Charlie Hunnam's work between now and 2018, no mention of Love Hate. Also there's no listing for a new Love Hate on this site.

Great, I'm pleased there will not be a US remake. The series is perfect as is.
Just make it available to the US market, say on HBO.

I purchased the complete series box set direct from rte shipped to the States, was a very reasonable price. Watched the whole thing again and loved it!
