I know Elmo and Ado messed up at first trying to kill him. So was the killer sent by the IRA? It looked like that girl working with the IRA with a skin head I thought.

Darren was killed by lizzie, revenge for Darren killing her brother.

I also thought this, except when they show her in the subsequent episode she has a full head of hair more or less.

That's because the next episode is in the next series...so time has passed and hair has grown.

I read a while ago that the season 6 was in production but I haven't been able to find out anymore info
