Advise for newbie?

Played this for the first time last night. I was terrible. I played about 4 games of squad deathmatch until I rage quit lol.

To be fair, it is the first proper FPS I have ever played on the PC. The graphics and great and the sounds are fantastic.

I've only ever really played Black Ops on the xbox for FPS games, so any helpful tips would be great.

Yorkshire is a place. Yorkshire is a state of mind.

I played Conquest. I think that's a better game for newbies. It's similar to Domination on COD. I also started off playing the engineer role supporting the team in vehicles. That can generate a lot of points. TBH, the assault rifles are fairly poor until you get the M16 which has three time the range and accuracy.

I wouldn't recommend squad games until you know what you're doing. Stick to Conquest and Rush at first - large teams are the way Battlefield is meant to be played anyway, and you'll have more opportunities to experiment with different play styles & strategies without greatly endangering your team.

Just remember this isn't an arena shooter like Halo or CoD. The maps are large for a reason. The best way to bring the hurt to the enemy team is to take them by surprise, by flanking them, shooting from a distance, or using hit n' run tactics.

A good class to start out with is the medic. Once you unlock the defibrillator (I know, something that essential to the class should be available from the start, but it isn't), you can help your team just by following other players to where the action is, using your LMG to give supporting fire, and reviving teammates when they get "killed." This will also allow you to see how more experienced players move around the map, and what tricks they use to avoid getting turned into hamburger meat when things get nasty.

Sorry, I know I tend to be long-winded, but if you have any more specific questions, I'll try my best to provide an answer.

Good hunting!

Main advice is practice practice till you can practice no more and the k/d ratio will improve.
Best way to unlock classes quickly (to achieve all weapons & equipment) is to remember to do the job of the class you're in for the team in general. If an assault class always drop ammo when around team mates, medic drop health & revive (reviving a team mate gets you the same XP as a kill), engineer fix vehicles. You get the picture. Obvious I know but doing this all the time will net you serious pointage. Oh and spotting!

Don't take this the wrong way but check out How Not to be N00B on Battlefield Bad Company 2 on YouTube. Its a brilliantly detailed and funny breakdown of the game's mechanics.
