I hope they don't screw up the 'In Memoriam' segment like last year!

Patrick Swayze got screwed!

reply

Uninspired but better than last year. Too bad Celine did the singing tho'.

Patrick Swayze died in 2009...

reply

Which means he should have been part of the In Memoriam in last years Oscar broadcast, 2010.

reply

Which means he would be included in the 2010 Oscars

Corey Haim died in 2010 in which he would be included this year!!
BUNCH OF DAMN MORONS RUNNING THIS SHOW!!

reply

Yes! They did miss Corey Haim! That's lame! Also, I meant that they screwed up Swayze's tribute on last year's broadcast by focusing on James Taylor when Swayze's picture showed up.

reply

Did they show Peter Graves?

reply

They must have given the audience a "no clapping" lecture before the show. First time I've ever seen a Memorium dead silent with no clapping. I HATED that! I like to hear the applause when they get to someone in the industry that was well known and liked. Felt empty without applause for some of the bigger names like Dennis Hopper.

Thanks to computer savvy alcoholics, there's an app for that. ~ Dr. Sheldon Cooper

reply

They WHAT?! Oh that stinks. I'm just watching a re-broadcast of the show now but knowing this is extremely disappointing. Hearing the applause spike is a highlight of this segment.

Did anyone see Jonny Sheffield mentioned? He played "boy" in the original black & white Tarzan movies?

He wasn't mentioned, but he was mentioned on TCM's memoriam.

reply

I noticed that also.

They also forgot Eartha Kitt last year.

Shawn: "I solve a case every week and usually one around Christmas"

reply

They did. They forgot:

Eddie Fisher
Corey Haims
John Forsythe
Katryn Grayson
Tony Curtis
Gloria Stuart
Peter Graves
Zelda Rubenstein

I can't remember whether someone these actors were covered 82th Oscars, though. TCM has the best memoriams.

reply

Tony Curtis & Gloria Stuart were both mentioned.

Thanks Isitin. My eyes have glassed over because of sheer boredom. Anne and James sucked the life out of show! LOL!

reply

They did NOT forget Tony Curtis or Gloria Stuart.

Kathryn Grayson was included last year.

Eddie Fisher only starred in two films, I believe, and Peter Graves and Zelda Rubenstein probably had more memorable TV careers. I would have thought Forsythe would make it in on the strength of "In Cold Blood" and "The Trouble with Harry" alone, and Corey Haim, while not a great star, had a significant film career in the 80s (certainly a more significant film career than either Allyah or Michael Jackson, both of whom were included the years they died).

That's like asking me to choose between day and night. Life and death. Pork and beans.

They forgot Gary Coleman...musta been overlooked

Are you watching closely?

reply

Thanks Darkroom. I couldn't remember. Does anyone know the cut off date of passing to included in the memoriam? It seems like every year that they can't get right.

reply

actually Tont Curtis was the VERY first one, most missed it because they were still on Celine and the camera just caugt a quick glimpse

reply

Wow, how do you screw up an In Memorium? No singer next time please Academy. The way applause was held to the end made it feel like they were applauding Celine Dion for Christ's sake. Awful.

reply

The no applause SUCKED. I was clapping at home anyhow. RIP Dennis Hopper. You're the best.

i wanted barabera billingsly over corey haim...but they never are too fond of tv stars

reply

They left out Maria Schneider, her role on Last Tango in Paris is still remembered and the film is important, for me she was the biggest miss of the list.

reply

They neither mentioned Bernd Eichinger, one of Europe's most important film producers.
He was the producer of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film winning film "Nirgendwo in Afrika", writer/producer of two other films nominated in that category and producer/writer/director of numerous other award winning films and several Hollywood productions.
Don't see why they left him out.
