Robbed, robbed, robbed, i say....

Golden Globes at least nominated Charlize Theron here...but how in hell did she not make the Oscar cut with THIS performance (maybe the best of her career). One day somebody's gonna have to sit down and explain that to me. She joins a hallowed list here (Kevin Bacon in "Murder In The First" and Robert Shaw as Quint, just for starters). A simply phenomenal character study, and a great script by Diablo Cody.

I totally agree. I just don't understand why she wasn't nominated for the Oscars for this one. It's a very impressive performance.
And it's especially difficult to understand since the movie is made with Academy 'favorites' like Theron, Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman and the Academy tends to repeatedly nominate its favorites...
Could it possibly be that it's wrongly labeled as a comedy by many. Hmm.. Very strange indeed.

She is so much better in this than in "Monster"... but you know, Academy voters like drama, over the top performances, prosthetics...
If you make just a perfect contained performance like this one, you are below their radar, more so if you are in a comedy.

I DON'T think she was better in this than she was in 'Monster', but I do agree that she should've gotten an Oscar nod for this.

Not sure about her being on the level of Robert Shaw, though....

I think she was great in both films (this and 'Monster').

She is an actress who is not afraid to take risks (e.g., she doesn't just rely on roles that highlight her beauty).

She is a gorgeous woman, yet she had no problem portraying a very not glamorous serial murderess in 'Monster', plus she was able to relay some believable sympathy for that character.

I also think she doesn't get the credit she deserves for being quite a good little comedienne, such as playing 'Mavis' in 'Young Adult' and even further back in her bit part in 'That Thing You Do'.

I don't care for many current comedies, but I really enjoyed 'Young Adult' and loved her performance in it.

I agree she deserved a nod for this film, but I would NEVER put it ahead of Monster. Her work in Monster was one of the greatest performances I've ever seen in the history of film. This was excellent as well, but not on that level.
