I know Mavis' personality (or lack there of) Twin. Anyone else??

A girl I went to high school with, that I still talk to every now & again, even has a baby now (not planned, not married, but still a blessing, of course & she's a good mom), yet she's still very self absorbed & jeally of everyone. It's pretty sad & pathetic. I keep thinking she'll grow up finally at ripe age of 32, but she's made her bed & now she has to sleep in it. Her priorities have been screwed up all her life unfortunately.

Yes. Mavis reminds me of two women I know in real life. Especially the part where they get enraged if a fat or less attractive woman gets married. "Why does SHE have a husband and I don't? I'm hot!" And then they tell everyone "well, I'M not settling or compromising. If that's what you have to settle for just to get married, I'd rather be alone and wait for the perfect guy".

Well, I am Mavis. I could've played that character. I'm her same age,37, and tried to win back my high school sweetheart, with no success. Tried to make his fiancée jealous, because I thought he was hitting at me ,again. But they're too much in love.
I am pretty much stuck in the 90's, and I feel I can still rely on my outer appearance.
I have pretty much no career and feel disappointed on so many levels. I suffer from thricotillomania- that said- I pull my hair out.
I rely on my pet- just him-
No romances on the horizon.

I went through the experience of miscarriage ,as well.
And last but not least, I too am wearing a heart shaped gold necklace.

It seems you have some insight into why you're not happy - that's a real plus. If you haven't already, you might consider therapy- if one is ready to listen and do the work, it's very rewarding. We don't have to remain, "stuck" when there's help available. You deserve it.

Mavis shows the symptoms of suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder. If you look up the symptoms, she displays many of them. I don't think she was simply a selfish jealous insecure person. I think she was suffering from BPD.
