Yvette

Is anyone else really bothered by her? She is so negligent, distant, and absent, and she doesn't really seem to care a whole lot for Pim. She says that she does; she wistfully tells Sabrina that she only has one son, but her actions don't reflect those words. I felt so sorry for Pim throughout most of the film because he doesn't have a loving parent. He doesn't seem to have any friends besides Sabrina (with whom he can't even really be friends because she wants more than a friendship with him). When he finds love, his boyfriend Gino (whom I think is also his half-brother, which, of course, would likely mean that Sabrina is also his half-sister) abandons him, most likely because Gino is not comfortable confronting his sexuality. He is just so isolated and alone throughout most of the film, and a large part of me wants to blame Yvette.

In my opinion the author was providing support for Pim's behavior. I mean you would expect having no father the mother would be supportive and loving but in this case it was not the case. I read somewhere that Yevette felt Pim held her back. So she really wasn't too interested in providing a stable life for him.

Quite evident from the way she travels away and leaves Pim to go through emotional turmoil in regards to Gino

I thought the character was portrayed quite well, by Eva van der Gucht. Enjoyable.

When Yvette left the house to go off with Zoltan, that did seem negligent.
So, Yvette was not a very noble character. Marcella had some very harsh words about her.

I thought Yvette was almost childlike, not really cut out to be a mother. But I appreciated how Yvette didn't reject Pim for being different, such as when she found him dressing up. So she had some redeeming quality. In a way she was sweet, as was Pim.
