I love this guy!

What a character. What a human being. What an inspiration to anyone who has qualms about following their dream to simply do what they love--and not worry about what other people think.

I don't follow (or care about) fashion. I don't live anywhere near New York (or the east coast, for that matter), and I don't read the NYT, except for the occasional big story. I had never even heard of Bill Cunningham before I saw the trailer for this film. Two minutes into watching the film I said aloud, "I love this guy!"

Bill Cunningham is his own man. Some may feel that he's a tragic figure because of his life of solitude. But as a guy who very much enjoys solitude myself, I think otherwise social people just don't understand it. It's a thing, accept it.

We all have our regrets and aspects of life that cause us sadness, but Bill seems to be doing what he loves more than anyone I've ever seen before. He has chosen his path, and I'm in many ways envious of his life. At the time of this release, the man was about 80 years old and happily (excitedly, even) biking and walking all over New York City, contributing to society, while many of his peers were sedentary, sedated and senile, wasting away in some sterile elder care facility.

This apparent loner loves his life and his work, and is loved by more people than most of us.

Viva la vida, Bill Cunningham.

he's got a proud, stubborn, independent new yokka way about him. note that he uses iris apfel here & there. she currently has her own (maysles) documentary on netflix. another proud, energetic, independent new yokka.

fun.
