Is pistol-whipping more powerful than punching?
(From bar scene)
shareI never even thought about it! When you are watching a great movie you don't question stuff like that
_______
"if seagal was thinner this could have been a theatrical product."
The human hand is maleable, even with the bone. It can't concentrate kinetic force as well as a solid object. It's basically the same principle as using a bat to hit a baseball instead of just swinging your arm at it (not to mention the pain, heh heh).
A bit of an over-simplification, but ultimately yes, the butt of the gun would definitely convey the full force of an impact, whereas a punch would have some of it reflected back.
I would tend to agree with that statement as well. Moreover, a pistol can weight several pounds and has a lot of pretty sharp edges that will cut as well.
shareSimplest way to answer this is think about this: What do you think would hurt your head more, Human fist or human hand swinging the butt of an automatic missing one round 45 Cal pistol?
(Honestly didn't look at the weapon, it could have been another caliber gun, most LEO's I know use 45's, so just a guess on my part.)
i thought that, in addition to the pistol, whipping the arm in the motion Joel McHale did produces more force than a standard punch. i thought i heard that somewhere before.
That was one of the finest examples of spiritual guidance I've ever had the good fortune to witness
Not Joel McHale haha
sharePistol whipping can break the skull. Watch the "Jesse James vs Al Capone" episode of Deadliest Warrior on Spike sometime.
shareSimple answer nope, the scene was *beep* Yes pistol is harder, yes it can break bones but all that doesn't matter here since they were punching into a soft ball. For same reason the impact mitigation of pistol vs fist is the same.

When I saw it I thought it was kind of the same idea as having brass knuckles.
shareYes, you wouldn't want to be pistol whipped. When I took my gun apart to clean, I accidentally dropped my slide (top part of the gun) on my bare foot and lets just say the pain was excruciating. I wanted to cry like a kid leaving a toy store empty handed.
