Steve Harvey is loved the same way as Bill Cosby

Reading these threads, I don't think people understand how many people love Steve Harvey. Family Fued is huge again because he is the host. This movie was a success because of the cast and the script. I wasn't a Kevin Hart fan before this movie but he was hilarious in this movie. This movie was a huge sucess. Everyone played their part perfectly. I only wish Gary Owens had more of a role. I loved him back on the Wayans brothers show.

I saw this movie and I really enjoyed it. Great plot and storyline and great casting to.

reply

Steve Harvey is not loved liked Bill Cosby. Lol. I have more respect for Bill.

reply

Agreed, he is nowhere near the level of worldwide love that Bill Cosby reached and continues to hold.

reply

You might have more respect for Bill Cosby the person, but you cannot discount Steve Harvey's ability to put out good work. The Steve Harvey Show was great. I miss some of those actors, like lydia and bullethead. Steve Harvey also re energized Family Fued.

reply

Me too!!! There's no comparison, IMO.

LOL, 90% of people outside of America have no clue who Steve Harvey is. EVERYBODY has heard of Bill Cosby. And I just cant stand Steve Harvey. Its something about the smug "every-time-I-speak-is-comedy-gold" arrogance he carries. I just cant stand him for some reason. I DONT hate him, but everytime I see him on something, I usually want to turn the station. I dont even want to see this movie because I know hes in it.

reply

Where did your feelings for Steve Harvey develop. Did you watch The Steve Harvey Show, of the Kings of Comedy. I wouldn't like someone that carries themselves with that much arrogance either but he deserves to feel that way. Remember at the time he built the WB with the Steve Harvey Show, and the Kings of Comedy broke all types of comedy records. Now this movie is great. If you are a Kevin Hart fan you will love this movie

reply

Kings of Comedy broke records because of Cedric and Bernie Mac. If STeve was as loved as Bill Cosby, he'd be doing more than a radio show. That's his gift. He had a tv show, but it was no Cosby. The Cosby Show was a major network tv show. Millions upon millions of ratings, dvds, syndications...Steve Harvey wasn't a great actor. He underhanded Bernie Mac to get a movie role which showed how sneaky he could be, even to his own so called friend. Him, being a somewhat, grouchy old man is what's paying him now. I listen to his show because he's funny sometimes...but I wouldn't pay to see him in a movie. That's why he's not in any. Kevin Hart doesn't even have that draw. It's all about the script in the end. Kevin has to stop always trying to be the Supporting Little Guy and take himself more seriously. But if clowning is what's paying the bills...get that paper.

See, I don't know you but I can see that you have unfounded problems with steve harvey. I am a fan of Steve Harvey after his first show that was canceled on abc, called me and the boys. If you listen to interviews of the Kings of Comedy you will learn the truth. Bernie Mac and D.L. Hugley were past their primes in comedy. They were being past over for younger comedians. Cedric was a no name young up and coming comedian. They all say that Steve brought them altogher.

reply

Where did you get this information? D.L. may not have been a hot comodity, but Bernie was on fire. He closed the show on the Kings of Comedy tour. Anyone who knows anything about concerts knows that the closing act is the best act.

I don't have a problem with Steve, but he did try to backdoor Bernie for the role in Ocean's Eleven.

The truth is mightier than the sword.

reply

Kings of Comedy blew bernie mac up. He first blew up on Def Comedy Jam. Look at his work after Def comedy jam and then Kings of Comedy. He wasn't that popular. He did How to be a player and some other small roles in player's club.

reply

Bernie's career was on a trajectory, which is why he was asked to join the Kings of Comedy. He had made appearances on a number of television shows and movies, not just a couple. Of all the comedians on the bill, Bernie had the longest resume.

It's okay to be a Steve Harvey fan, but you can't diminish Bernie Mac's career. Bernie wasn't falling off, he was just getting started. The only reason we're even discussing this movie is because Steve's career was falling off. He couldn't get movie parts so he transitioned into radio, was encouraged to write a book (based on letters read during the show) that sold well, and it was turned into a movie. Steve is doing his thing, but Bernie's career was hot.

reply

First of all, I might be the biggest Bernie Mac fan in the world. Mr. 3000 should have won all sorts of awards for creativity. But you are wrong. Bernie's career was on the same trajectory as Bill Bellamy and other comedians from Def Comedy Jam. How to be a player, Bellamy was the star of the movie. Bernie and Mike Epps careers would be equal except that Bernie did Kings of Comedy. Bernie definitely stole the show.

reply

How could one be considered a "King of Comedy" if their career is in the toilet?

The truth is mightier than the sword.

reply

Who career was in the toliet at that time. Bellamy had a tv pilot on tv, doing movies. Martin was the biggest comedian at that time. Bernie was a second tier comedian, than joined Kings of Comedy and became a national star. Not kings of comedy he would still be getting 2nd tier movies like Mike Epps. Bernie mac took the place of Cris Tucker because Tucker didn't want to be famous.

reply

Just because you don't blow up after a few appearances doesn't mean a thing. His talent paid off in the long run. It was his talent that got him great parts in movies like Bad Santa and Ocean's 11, etc. I hate that he passed away so soon. I'm sure he had a lot more entertainment in him.

Also, I've seen both Bernie Mac and Steve Harvey live in stand-up. With Steve, I had a few decent chuckles. But Bernie had me in tears!

Wow, Bernie Mac was the funniest thing on that tour! That's why he was on last.

I will give Steve Harvey his props for being a marketing genius, however, I also believe he's an opportunist. The fact that he has had 3 wives shows that he's not the most loyal person, and just moves on to the next best opportunity as he sees fit. I hope his current wife doesn't get too comfortable - I wouldn't be surprised if he sent her packing if someone else catches his eye.

reply

My opinion on Steve is (agreeing with you)....

He tells women to wait 90 days for sex, which is Clearly against what the Word says, and yet he talks a lot about how God has blessed him etc,

he even went on TBN the Christian channel saying how he has been blessed...and crying. My issue is this: if you (he) know God is the reason for your success then why does he turn around and Speak Against what God words says.

I am not judging just can't get with him on that one!
Peace

reply

I agree as well. He can be somewhat of a hypocrite!

i agree... i also hate his attitude of "i'm the only one that knows anything and every word i speak is fact".... he dismisses everyone that doesn't think as he does....

reply

I feel the same way about Steve as you do! But since a lot of my friends and relatives (whom I usually agree with on movies) saw the movie and like it, I decided to check it out.

I enjoyed it as well and his time on the in the movie didn't take away from the whole movie - thankfully! lol

I feel the same way. I don't hate him but I can't stand him nor do I care to watch him on anything because HE thinks he's very funny, but he really really isn't.

The people who like him are the same ones who find other low rent people amusing.

I don't think many people question Steve Harvey's ability as a comedian. What's questionable is is ability as a relationship expert.

reply

lol. I don't believe anyone is a relationship expert. I agree with you about taking advice from him. I didn't see the movie for advice on relationships. I ruined plenty on my own but now I found the right one, and no one could have given me proper advice about my wife. I went to see the movie because I like the actors in the movie, and on twitter everyone was saying that it was funny and really good.

reply

I hate to tell you this, but nobody went to see this movie because of Steve Harvey. The marketing barely even emphasized his contribution. People went to see this because of Kevin Hart who prominently displayed in every single trailer I saw. Almost everyone I knew told me they went to this because they like Kevin Hart. Everyone I know said they laughed at the movie mainly because of Kevin Hart. I'm not trying to downplay Steve Harvey's popularity, he is popular but not in the way that the OP is stating. He was not the reason for this movies success. Kevin Hart,a relatable story, and some excellent marketing were. I'm pretty sure if Steve Harvey had been advertised as the star there would have been no $30 million opening because the younger crowd would have passed this movie up.

Not me. Had I not seen the trailer about six months ago and knew what the film was about, I would've skipped it based on the promos they showed featuring Kevin Hart. He wasn't a selling point for me.

I don't think Dr. Phil knows *beep* but people put him in high regard. He must be saying something right if people are following it and buying that book.

reply

I'm a huge Bill Cosby fan. As for me being a fan of Steve, I'd have to say, it's mediocre at best. I did like the movie though and his television show where he was a high school teacher.

That wasn't Gary Owen on "The Wayans Bros", that was Mitch Mullaney, he died a few years ago.

reply

I don't think that's true. Bill Cosby was/is known all over the world as America's number 1 dad (the cosby show) and the whole family can watch him, known for "Fat Albert", jello pudding commericals and regular jello commercials and his sand up comedy. Steve Harvey isn't known for anything really, maybe for his suits and his show on WB (The steve harvery show), that was a good show and I still watch reruns of it. I think a lot of black ppl know who he is from "Showtime at the Apollo", his short lived show "me and the boys" (idk if anyone remembers that show, but I do) and "The Steve Harvey show", "Kings of comedy" and his morning radio show.
