3D vs. 2D

I've already seen this short film along with TOY STORY 3 in IMAX 3D and in 2D now, and while TS3 wasn't far superior in 3D vs. 2D, I believe that DAY AND NIGHT was and should be seen in 3D to truly appreciate the depth of field of the images viewed inside the titular characters' bodies. By the way, I was really impressed with the imagination of this short (courtesy of Pixar University students according to the closing credits) and feel that the "radio chatter" was commenting on the originality of the short itself and how people tend to dismiss and/or not understand any art that is new or different (besides commenting on the characters who at first do not appreciate the benefits of each other's differences).

Yeah, I'll probably try and find a 3D showing at the same time as the 2D so I can sneak in to see the short in 3D then go to the film in 2D. I can't stand 3D as it wears my eyes out and makes me feel like I'm straining, but I'd make do to see the short.

As for the chatter, I agree completely, I felt it was incredibly poignant and well done to explain the drive behind not only the short itself, but Pixar in general. They're there to push boundaries--especially with the short films, and they keep pushing them more and more. I thought it was all really well done.

I was thinking about the short even as Toy Story started rolling and it was kinda hard to get it out of my head as the film began, haha. I'll definitely be going back--if not just for the short again.

This sounds like it might be something pretty special, even by Pixar’s mountainously high standards. When they do something that brings the house down, I get to thinking about their ‘competition’ (DreamWorks, etc) and I am always reminded of the climactic scene between Edward G. Robinson and Steve McQueen in THE CINCINNATI KID, where the former takes the latter to the cleaners – “you’re good, kid, you’re damn good, but while I’m around, you’ll always be second best.” Pixar to a T!

Really? I disagree.

I also saw the film in 3D IMAX as well as 2D, although I saw it in 2D first. I found that I didn't love the short in 3D and much preferred the 2D version. Perhaps it was because I had to be looking back and forth too much on the giant IMAX screen to see each character as opposed to having the whole frame in my field of view, but I really liked the simplicity of the 2D version. I felt that with the 3D version there was too much going on to try and concentrate on.

So the 2D version gets my vote.

I agree. I saw it first in 3D, then in 2D and the 3D definately looked better and more effective in my opinion.
