I do find it hilarious when people go to the effort of looking things up that they don't actually know, just in the hopes of proving somebody wrong. I just looked at your link, rikerbot. Yes, it's listed under plural. However, scroll down to Word Origin and History. It might enlighten you.

Proper plural is octopodes, though octopuses probably works better in English. Octopi is from mistaken assumption that -us is the L. noun ending that takes -i in plural.
