predictable but nice

This is such a predictable plot line: young person has a dream; young man is involved with wealthier woman, who is a either a bitch or boring or unethical and who wants him to commit to giving up his dream to make money and lead conventional life; he meets an unconventional woman who challenges him to go against fiancee's standards; he resists her challenge; he becomes fascinated by her and a little scared of her influence, then falls for her, while trying to somehow maintain former commitment; there is some sort of situation where he sees he shouldn't stay with the first woman; he gets together with the second woman and together they appear to start following his dream.

I often wish there would be a movie about what happens next. At what point does all that freedom and unconventionality on the second woman's part start to wear thin? What about when his dream starts involving her making some sacrifices? What about when her freedom dictates she move on? In the case of this movie, what happens when a guy with strict moral standards is hooked up with someone who wants to get drunk and stoned and have sex with a near stranger who is engaged to someone else?

Nevertheless, I enjoyed this movie. I never saw an Edward Burns movie I didn't like. The interview he did about it http://www.accidentalsexiness.com/2010/04/22/edward-burns-brings-you-nice-guy-johnny/
he says he never enjoyed so much working on a film as he did this one, because of the enthusiasm of the unknown young actors involved.
