Are they kidding with this camera work?

I tracked this movie down because I think You're Next looks fantastic! After watching this I lost all interest in You're Next. This movie was ruined by the awful awful awful camera work, was it a joke or something, seriously what the hell?

reply

I heard You're Next has similar problems when it comes to the camera work.

reply

It totally does not.

reply

Well, I saw it and it totally has the same problems.

Right? The style of filming gave me a headache, and I paused it a couple of times for a minute to re-focus my eyes. Eventually I gave up. If the camera work had been more clear, I probably would have stuck with it.

If you want to disorient your audience with the shaky cam to show that a character is confused, crazy or high, use it sparingly and appropriately. I can think of a couple of movies where a quickly moving, shaky shot moved the narrative along (Ireversible, for example - between the spiraling intro shot and the weird, mechanical music, I was nauseated. but it's one of the most visceral films I have ever seen). However, it is not avant garde or artistic to use it continuously throughout the movie. It's stupid and annoying, and is no substitute for good cinematography.

They're coming to get you, Barbara!

What the hell are you all on about? It's not a documentary. Camera work complaints GTFOH

What did you even tried to say?

The cameraman may have been on roller skates.

Solid line. I'm glad you've used it twice. As Bill Cosby always says, if you have a good line, keep saying it until it's really annoying. Give yourself a pat on the back pal.

We'd gone to a new musical called... "Oh, Africa, Brave Africa" it was a laugh riot.

Yea it was...random. It didn't add anything. It wasn't particularly interesting to look at and didn't create any kind of mood or evoke any emotion.

Specifically during the scene in the diner. The camera pans towards the window in the background and away from the actors while they're still engaged in dialogue. Then the focus gets blurry and gives this effect like what someone might see right before they pass out. Then it starts to become clear again while still focusing on the view outside of the window as if something is about to be revealed. I thought maybe once in focus again we'd see Garrick watching them from outside or something. But nah.

I still actually liked the movie. I'll never watch it again, though.

Also I really enjoyed You're Next.
