Anyone else think...

that giant mural/wallpaper in Daisy Fuentes' home didn't work and didn't look that great? They wallpapered the wall with a picture of a wall?

I know! It made me laugh...a picture of an ugly wall on top of an ugly wall in a very ugly house.

I didn't think that type of wall went well with the design of her house (which is very modern) but it was what she wanted.

There was something beautiful about it. I really liked the sepia color. But yeah, they put a picture of a wall on the wall. That it didn't cover the wall bothered me too. And it was random for the room. The room and house was very modern, with clean lines. The picture was about decay. Just strange.

You're right. I think if they filled in the rest of the wall to make it a mural it would have been more impressive (it would have appeared like an actual room and given the space depth). Or else they should have put a border on it or something to make it pop. The picture was beautiful but the execution just looked cheap and tacky.

Liked it! She is cool and funky and it went with her style.

The picture itself was quite beautiful. I loved the colors.

But it looked so out of place and random on that wall. First, they should've either covered the whole wall with it or made it smaller and framed it to make it look like a painting. Second, while the image itself is beautiful it really doesn't work as a wall decoration in a room. Third, it didn't really go with the modern feel of the rest of the room/house.

Aside from the picture, I didn't think the rest of the room was that well done either. It seemed bare and unfinished. Not in an the minimalist and clean kind of way, but in a bare and unfinished kind of way. Martyn's worst work on the show to date.

I disagree. It did work.

You wouldn't want it to cover the entire wall - this isn't a bad 1970's mural from some commune hippie hostel. The wall was large with a cathedral ceiling so it would not have worked to cover the entire wall. And it would have looked quite tacky to do so. Martyn did the entire wall beautifully.

The mural was to give the impression of stepping into the old Cuban home and if you will note, the chandelier was well proportioned to the room. That's why they put the mural to the baseboards - you get the impression that this is a room just beyond the modern living area.

I thought it did work and it worked quite well for Daisy and her taste. Martyn did an excellent job of mixing the old and new for her.

As for the comments about the mirror art piece on the wall being something you could find at a discount store, please remember that you get what you pay for. I loved the chairs and the rug but you could not have children around them!

I liked how he mixed modern and rustic. I love his work - I think this came off quite nicely.
