It must have taken him ages in front of the mirror to perfect that accent (and the pitch and delivery) LOL. Even the name is staged, I'll bet. Sort of an effective package though.
He is freakin hilarious, he is like some kind of PERFECT caricature of... well.. a camp transatlantic hollywood interior designer.
I think he is British but I think his accent is extremely tweaked, some naturally from living in the US for so long, and some deliberately. I think the truth is that the majority of REAL British accents are not understood very well in the US. And if it's a Northern British accent, most people can barely even tell that it's English at all, they think they are being spoken to in Dutch or German or something.
So a lot of Brits in the US use a 'doctored' accent. He just happens to have a really deliberate one.
I was pretty horrified... You can tell that he had his opening line memorised which was, "I haven't seen you girls since we all had dinner together at the Oscars, at Elton John's party". It's like name dropping and place dropping at the same time, so shameless.
I was hoping I wasn't the only one thinking his accent was strange! I have wracked my brain over who it reminded me of and it dawned on me last night. Remember on Project Runway when Santino Rice would imitate Tim Gunn saying "Where's Andre?"? That is exactly what this guy sounds like to me!
That's why I logged on here too. Tweaked is the word. It is almost like a drawl wherein he deliberately enhances certain syllables. He seems to plump them up the way one might plump up a pair of mis-matched accent cushions with a 400% mark-up.
As long as we are all on the same page about how over-the-top he is, I must admit I like this show.
I love that I don't need or want the services of these people but I get to see all the latest gimcracks available.
