What is the Washington Capitals connection?

In series one, Burt is wearing several different Washington Capitals ice hockey t-shirts. Does anyone know the connection? I get Virginia's 'Virginia' t-shirts, but was wondering what the deal was with the WC shirts. Anybody?

I know Greg Garcia worked on the Tony Kornheiser radio show in DC, so he may be a Cap fan. That's my guess tho.

He also wore the Washington Redskins shirts. I figured it was because he attended the University of Washington. So it was a play on words

Some speculate that Natesville is in Maryland. What struck me is in one episode Burt references Hagerstown which is a town near here (in Maryland). I was like "Whoa!" I looked it up and there are no other Hagerstowns in the US, so that would support that theory. At any rate, it would then make sense that Burt is a DC sports fan.
