I didn't understand his background (SPOILERS)

I didn't quite catch the background story of the Jackie Chan character. He was born in China and fought in the Vietnam war with the Americans? And then while fleeing Vietnam his daughters were killed by pirates? Sounds a bit far-fetched.

Yeah, it was easy to get lost in that.

I would agree that it wasn't that believable of Thai pirates raping children, but the movie wasn't the focus on that.
