Martin Campbell to direct !

Director of Casino Royale and Edge of Darkness to direct Jackie Chan Action-drama Thriller ! Exciting news !!!

reply

Yeah, he also directed Green Lantern so I'd temper the enthusiasm a little. This does seem more like something in his wheelhouse though so I'm hopeful that it's good.

reply

Right. Cross finger

reply

I definitely have my fingers crossed! The Edge Of Darkness TV show is my all-time-favourite....

reply

yes Stephen !
One of the producers, Scoot Lumpkin says that filming should begin in London in November under the direction of Martin Campbell. Jackie Chan for his part, said he would begin filming in January.

One thing is certain, the project is well on track.

reply

You know more than me and I wrote the book! :-)

reply

ahah..

I'm a writer for french website about Jackie Chan: JACKIE CHAN FRANCE (www.jackie-chan.fr), so i follow Jackie closely ;)

Great novel Stephen ! Sadly not release/translation in France ! Why ? you're so good review ! Here, a article (in french) on The Chinaman on Jackie Chan France

Anyway, I am very happy to see Jackie Chan in such a serious role in the US. (he used now have dramatic roles in Asia). In addition, shooting by director of Casino Royale and Edge of Darkness.

He definitely wasn't to blame for Green Lantern. The script was atrocious.

reply

I am a director, and a director is to blame for filming a bad script. It's your job to steward the best possible story into the editing room.

Goddamn these electric sex pants!!

reply

It's not possible to polish a turd and the script for The Green Lantern was poor as was the Rogen. He was not suited to this role at all. Needed someone with better writing skills to write a script and a more believable hero. Not much the director could do as he was a director for hire and was not in charge of the production. Casino Royale showcases his talent.

reply

Andrew, you are mixing up "The Green Lantern" with "The Green Hornet". The "Hornet" was directed by another good director, Michel Gondry. And it was terrible, of course.

reply

I say that this will be relatively good, since Campbell/Brosnan have paired up well before, in GoldenEye.

But also this is a more grounded story, weaved in reality more than superhero fiction. Based on me never hearing of this film until now, I feel like if it is good, then it will be highly underrated.

reply

Direction wasn't the problem of Green Lantern. It was spending too much money on the CGI suit, and having awful Arrow writers. Guggenheim and Berlanti and Michael Green all co-wrote the screenplay and story.
