Sorry, but he looked fat, tired and bored. He totally phoned in his performance. It looks like the cool, exciting, dangerous Benicio of "Traffic" and "The Hunted" has retired.

shareSure, it was an "odd" performance, maybe because it was an odd movie. We're all used to seeing Benicio be brilliant (and yes he was in Che!!)...Here, he's still playing a ROLE! Don't forget that.....at that, he did a brilliant job.
I just hate to see such a charming man have to play such an evil slime. :(

I totally disagree, I thought Del Toro's performance was excellent as always. He is one of the most talented actors in Hollywood.

i taught the actor did a good job with the character, but its funny how praise i see for this actor yet it was the firt time i saw him in a movie before lol. Got to admit the name ring a bell, heard it before, but never really saw him... guess we don't watch the same kind of movie lol

Totally disagree with you, OP. I didn't care for the movie that much, if I'm being honest, but his performance was the standout for me. He played the creepy sleaze-ball/sociopath brilliantly and did the best with the material given in my opinion.
For instance, the scene when he just turns around and kills little Esteban out of nowhere was eye-opening. He went from being "el jefe" in charge to being reamed out in the very next scene by Elena in very convincing fashion.
I love how people judge looks rather than an actor's performance showing off how superficial they really are.
Beneicio Del Toro is one of my favorite actors because of one quality and one quality only, he's a creep. When he acts, the creep factor goes off the roof and for a nortorious Cartel henchmen, he did his job.
He is one of the reasons this movie is actually watchable. I wasn't too crazy about this movie, but I thought that Benicio Del Toro nailed his role. He totally played a convincing creep. Salma Hayek was another reason why I didn't fully dislike this movie.

By regrading my post I had realized that I wrote that BDT was a creep which might insinuate that I know the man. I'm sure he's a fine outstanding citizen donating to charity and what not so I retract that statement and say that he plays a good creep or that his skill of creepiness is a stand alone performance that he doesn't need a white van. And Evol X, I'm glad you too can see his skill over his aging appearance.
