Did Blake Lively ruin it

The movie had a great story and beautiful visual style..with some able supporting actors in Travolta, Del Toro and Hayek. The two male leads were okay..

But how terrible was Blake Lively? She has absolutely no screen presence and no understanding of what acting is..and to make matters worse, they gave her the voice over, her voice has no power or charm to it..she has no idea how to narrate a story..

What a terrible casting blunder.

Dito.... what a mess! I found 'O' so terribly annoying..

But personally I found other parts failing too.. overacting from Del Toro or perhaps it was just "overwritten" in parts.. dunno - I just found it being unintentionally funny too often. (or perhaps it was meant to be that way?! ;)

Just thought it could have been good but was somehow trainwrecked :(

Like it wanted to be really tough and cool but failed.. honestly it felt a little like a really bad Tarantino knock-off sometimes.. what happened to Oliver Stone?

reply

It was sadly miscast, she was the weak link... Loved the "Bond of Brothers" and such a GREAT! movie, the military component shows the theme of brothers that Oliver Stone would use, true genius...

She was real good in "The Town", and she's not that bad.

reply

yes she was good in the town and i like her in this too but i felt like the writers let this movie down and stone should of never changed the ending.

She was terrible in the Town. She had some kind of New York accent.

reply

Not for nothing, but when she auditioned for "The Town", Ben asked her what part of Boston she grew up in. I thought she was great in this movie. the other actresses they were looking at were wrong for this in soooo many ways. Oliver Stone picked & directed her for a reason.

Stopped watching it and deleted it after I couldnt take her anymore. Horrible movie made worse by her acting and whiny, annoying voice.

her acting was atrocious in this.

she should have kept her mouth shut and do her job as eye candy.

Blame Oliver Stone. Him and his writers put the words in her mouth. She did her job as far as I'm concerned.

reply

Nope. Some of the lines were terrible but for the most part it was Lively's fault. A good actor would've been able to deliver and execute the lines much better.

reply

"I have orgasms. He has wargasms." I don't think many actresses could pull that off - it's not like her character is meant to have a heightened ironic sense of humor. That said, she's awful.

reply

None of the characters in this movie was convincing...
Every single one somehow annoyed me, especially Del Toro.. while I usually love him.

reply

Yes that stupid *beep* ruined the whole film with her poor acting and really annoying voice! I really wanted to see her die from the first 10 minutes of the movie!

reply

Yes, I hated her and she doesn't even show any skin, i mean wtf if they can show more male skin than female.

reply

I agree. If she wants to do more gritty stuff at least prepare to go topless. If not that just stick to romcom like Katherine Heigl.

reply

Frankly speaking I didn't like the two guys as well! I found O completely annoying, both the caracter and the actress!

reply

I really don't mind looking at her for 90 mins. Her narration did suck though, that's what ruined it for me.

reply

I thought she was alright. Felt bad for her in that scene where O is writing to her mother about her trip to Europe, but the narration was terrible.
