Disappointing - not really Spoilers.

I chose this fim over two others to see yesterday, and I made the wrong choice.

I expected a film with sub-titles and instead got a rather stilted English version (I don't think it was dubbed - although some of the roles may have been as there was a lot of conversation without showing the face of the speaker, which was really strange to watch/listen to).

Everything goes wrong for them in what seems to be the first few weeks and although some dates appear on the screen, not enough do, so that you feel that all the bad things that happen, happen in the course of just a few days. Some of these things seem a bit far-fetched, and there are many scenes where there is not conversation, but just these 6 or 7 guys looking at each other.

Heyerdahl comes across as extraordinarily arrogant, but I gather he was. I would never have agreed to travel on a raft with this man as portrayed here however, and am surprised anyone else would. One of the characters seems to be along just because Thor met him in a bar and liked him. The others are not explained in enough detail, in my opinion.

I have not seen the documentary, and don't know where I can - but I have heard that it is very good. It is too bad that the director felt he had to make full use of colour, leaving a few of the men bathed in blood far too long (i sure would have washed right away).

I'm giving this a 4 - I did stay until the end and the story itself was interesting, even though not well done.
